Wheres all the drum beating?? Wasn't this Americas # 1 fear a year ago? The dems wailing they wanted unilateral talks (like Clintons before)
Granted things might change but there is one defining diff in this agreement and the one the Dems wanted-again--they have to answer to more than just the U.S. if they go back on their word.
This was one of greater crisis in past decade--
When you go to polls remember who was correct on this international crisis--and who wanted the kum ba ya approach--again

N. Korea agrees to declare nuke programs 4 minutes ago

BEIJING - North Korea agreed to provide a "complete and correct declaration" of its nuclear programs and will disable its facilities at its main reactor complex by Dec. 31 under an agreement reached by North Korea and five other countries released Wednesday.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei said as part of the agreement, the U.S. will take the lead in seeing that the facilities are disabled and will fund those initial activities.

"The DPRK agreed to disable all existing nuclear facilities subject to abandonment under the Sept. 2005 joint statement and Feb. 13 agreement.

"The disablement of the five megawatt experimental reactor at Yongbyon, the reprocessing plant at Yongbyon and the nuclear fuel rod fabrication facility at Yongbyon will be completed by 31 December 2007," Wu said, referring to North Korea by its official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The agreement came after negotiations last week in Beijing involving China, the U.S., Japan, Russia and South and North Korea. It puts in writing a verbal promise that North Korean negotiator Kim Kye Gwan gave to U.S. envoy Christopher Hill a month ago

As you point out so well, North Korea will have to answer to other countries besides just the U.S. if they attack other countries or expand their nuclear capabilities.

If only we had proceded that way in Iraq, and hopefully will in Iran, things could have been much different - much like North Korea.

I remember how well Dubbya's daddy did with the organization of support for the first attack on Iraq when they actually attacked another country. Too bad Junior wasn't paying attention to that - or the comments made by Cheney who clearly understood the difference until it benefited him so much to think differently.

Of course we won't agree on this either, but that's nothing new. Amazing how the North Koreans are paying attention to other world powers (that aren't dependent on our support and control) when they also put pressure on - and mean it.

It's my understanding that the North Korean ability to launch missles has been compromised by Western agents who have penetrated their computer systems.

I don't know Chad--had we not showed that we will do something except talk in Iraq--Current threats now might not be taken serious- as before went Saddam thumbed his nose at us and UN for years.

My point- Lybia immediatly discontinued their nuke ambitions--where they were saying "fck you" prior.

Iran got to be thinking--they can delay things continuously by dancing with Euro's--but what if we step in. Who do you think they fear most?

While things are looking much better on NK front I am still in the "believe it when I see it mode"

One thing that puzzels me--NK was dead set on the unilateral talks for obvious reasons and knows the Dems were asking for same--can't figure why they didn't (and maybe still will) buy just a little more time till 08 elections and maybe get their wish.
