According to the Baton Rouge Advocate, LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux told his attorney that he was "beat up" during a widespread weekend altercation that reportedly involved Tigers football players.

There have been no arrests, and thus, no obvious reason yet to think any LSU players would be disciplined before Saturday's trip to Alabama.

A report from a TV station goes into more detail about the events of the evening and notes the attendance of LSU star defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey.

Rolltide, I know being a BIG BAMA FAN it might be hard to be objective, but do you think Bama's QB can get the job done to take LSU or at least cover the 7to 7.5 pt spread.

I personally would like to take the points with the home team etc, but a little worried about John David:shrug:

Count to start with, it may help to learn the name of the guy you want to pull for: John PARKER Wilson:mj07:

You know it is one of those good Alabama three names. Wilson has looked like the best QB in the SEC the last two games but last year and the first 5 games he was Jeckyl & Hyde:shrug: He has the ability and arm to be a great QB but has a habit of making bad decisions and being mistake prone. We will definitely have to throw the ball to win this game and our strength is at WR, we have the best core in the SEC. As one of the biggest homers on here, I hope he continues to play like he did against Tennessee but that is a defense that has given up 40+ points three times and I do not see that happening against LSU. We need our defense to play like the shutout they put on UT in the second half and I like 24-20 Bama but that is coming from a homer and I never bet on my team, cannot take out the emotional part.

Good luck in your decision!

Thanks dunclock for the response. Really looking to play this game and I know there are strengths on both sides, both good teams.

After last week's IMO lucky play by LSU and Bama's Home field advantage and current good play by John Parker :00hour and getting over 7 points, it's hard not to be considering a Bama play.

But in all fairness have not yet heard LSU summary from that side, but defeinitely leaning Bama now.

I'm probably one of the more objective Alabama fans you will find. I don't drink the crimson kool-aid like a lot of 'Bama fans.

I also never bet when Alabama is involved. But having said all that.... :142smilie

There is no doubt that Alabama is a better team with Nick Saban as the head coach. Personally I liked Mike Shula and appreciated that he took the 'Bama job when nobody else could or would. Having said that, it was time for him to go.

There is a fire in this team that was lacking from a year ago. Alabama has made the most of its opportunities by winning games in the fourth quarter, shaking off the sub-par performance of its defense to win three consecutive games over the last four weeks.

This year's defense ranks fifth in the SEC in rush defense, sixth in scoring defense, ninth in pass defense and 10th in red-zone defense. Yet they've won twice with a dominating defensive effort (Western Carolina and Tennessee) and twice more with an opportunistic defense (Houston and Ole Miss).

In my opinion the big difference is in big-play potential. Alabama ranks eighth in red-zone offense this year after ranking seventh in 2005 and 2006, but those squads had their share of field goals, while this year's team has more touchdowns and only ranks eighth because kicker Leigh Tiffin has struggled in converting his field goal opportunities in the red zone.

'Bama is coming off their best game of the year against UcheaT. Have they turned the corner? It's hard to say.... I believe they are still a year away, but Saban has the Tide playing hard in the 4th quarter and winning in the 4th quarter.

In my mind I keep coming back to the Florida State game in Jacksonville. I still don't know how 'Bama lost to the 'Noles. But that loss by 7 and a 3 point OT loss at home to Georgia separate 'Bama from a Top 5 ranking and an 8-0 record.

Nothing would surprise me in this game. Alright, a 'Bama blow-out win would surprise me... but I see this game going into the 4th quarter and 'Bama has been winning that quarter. LSU seems to be living on borrowed time..... or LSU seems to be a team of destiny.

LSU is the most penalized team in the SEC with 69 penalties through 8 games. Alabama is one of the least penalized teams with 44 penalties through 8 games.

Offensively LSU has scored 40 of 43 times in the Red Zone (with 27 of those scores being TDs). Alabama has scored 32 of 37 times with 23 TDs. Defensively LSU ranks last in the SEC in Red Zone defense allowing 19 of 19 scores. 'Bama is not much better allowing 21 of 24 scores.

LSU is converting on 48% of their 3rd downs and Alabama converting on 43%.

LSU has allowed 19 sacks, Alabama 14 sacks. LSU has 22 sacks and Alabama has 14. (Obviously applying pressure to John Parker Wilson will be a key for LSU).

But enough with the stats. When the season started I predicted an 8-4 record for 'Bama with losses coming against Georgia, Florida State, LSU and Awbarn. So far I'm 2-2, but something tells me that Saban will have a few tricks up his sleeve come Saturday. Alabama has lost 4 in a row to LSU (one of the reason Shula was shown the door) and 7 of the last 10. Bryant-Denny will be rocking and the hype leading up to this game should be at a fever pitch.

If you held a gun to my head and said I had to bet this game, then I would take the Tide and the points. I see a 24-20... 27-24 type game.

No matter how you go Good Luck and ROLL TIDE!

2 LSU players likely to miss Alabama game because of nightclub brawl

By ASSOCIATED PRESS | October 29, 2007 |

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Backup quarterback Ryan Perrilloux and linebacker Derrick Odom are not expected to play for No. 3 LSU against No. 18 Alabama on Saturday because of their part in a nightclub brawl.

Oddsmakers have Alabama as 7 ?- underdogs against LSU.

Coach Les Miles said Monday they will not practice this week.

''We will prepare to play without these guys,'' Miles said.

No one was arrested in the fight near the LSU campus early Friday when Perrilloux and Odom got into a shoving match with a group of bouncers, the police report said.

Brent McClellan, owner of the Varsity nightclub, said Perriloux and Odom refused to leave at the 2 a.m. closing time, and the scuffle began when bouncers forced them into a parking lot, according to the report.

Perrilloux and Odom gave a different account. Odom told police the two players ''began fighting off the bouncers'' to protect themselves and their girlfriends.

They did have girlfriends at the club with them and they refused to leave the bar. Perrilloux has been in trouble before so this is not a surprise.

he wont practice this week which means he wont play or travel.

So now bama will only have to prepare for 1 QB.

Are the two Linemen for Alabama out for this game? with the whole textbook thing?
Will not matter trying to block Dorsey?

The University of Alabama is investigating the distribution of textbooks to athletes on scholarship in all sports after five football players were suspended for violating rules covering free books for course

Is it Cauldwell and Simms?

Still no word on the Alabama players. I would imagine they are a not playing this weekend.

From the Mobile Press Register:

Judging from Monday's practice, Alabama expects to be without five suspended football players for Saturday's 4 p.m. visit from third-ranked LSU.

Tailback Glen Coffee and defensive backs Marquis Johnson and Chris Rogers wore scout-team jersey numbers Monday, while offensive linemen Antoine Caldwell and Marlon Davis opened practice primarily as defensive dummies, not practicing with either of the first-string units.

Coffee wore No. 18 to represent LSU's Jacob Hester. It was Coffee's first relegation to scout team duty this season.

Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban offered no new information on the suspensions or the University of Alabama's investigation into possible NCAA violations stemming from the receipt of textbooks for scholarship athletes.

"It's not going to do you much good to ask me about it because I don't really know anything different about it," Saban told reporters.

Thus far, Alabama's five football players are the lone athletes publicly implicated in the ongoing school inquiry, which continues to look into all sports programs and athletes. No additional suspensions have yet been reported by the school's compliance office, which intends to self-report findings and suggest its punishment to the NCAA.

The NCAA then would likely rubber stamp or add punishment for the five players, assuming violations are uncovered during Alabama's investigation. There is no timetable or deadline -- either from Alabama or the NCAA -- in regards to a decision on the five players.

--LSU SITUATION: Backup quarterback Ryan Perrilloux and linebacker Derrick Odom did not practice at LSU on Monday and aren't expected to play Saturday, according to the Associated Press.

"We will prepare to play without those guys," Tigers coach Les Miles said.

Perrilloux and Odom were reportedly involved in a widespread nightclub brawl early Friday. Brent McClellan, owner of the Varsity nightclub, said Perrilloux and Odom refused to leave at the 2 a.m. closing time, and the scuffle began when bouncers forced them into a parking lot, according to the police report.

Perrilloux is a pure scumbag. Seriously...if he lived in any state in the nation other than Louisiana and played for anyone other than LSU he would be in jail already for some of what he has done.

Also from what i hear from some LSU people is that there was more to this than the fight. Apparently Perrilloux and his buddy came back later with guns.

From the New Orleans Time-Picayune:

Bouncers at the Varsity said they asked Perrilloux and a group of other customers to leave at closing time and were rebuffed. Perrilloux grew belligerent and the scene escalated, with the bouncers finally tossing Perrilloux out a back door, according to the report.

There, in the parking lot, more punches were thrown by a variety of people, including Odom, the report said. The owner of the Varsity, Brent McClellan, told officers "that several subjects made statements that they would leave but come back with guns to shoot the staff and club itself," the report said.

The people issuing such threats are not identified by name, and the report makes no mention of finding any weapons on anyone at the scene.

Perrilloux spoke with Miles on Friday, and Miles was satisfied no further action was warranted, according to Fisher, but the plot thickened Saturday when an anonymous person called police and said Perrilloux had stuck a gun in their face. Fisher said that seemed odd because Perrilloux had never mentioned a gun in any fashion when they spoke after the incident, and Perrilloux vigorously denies he had a weapon at any time.

"Then it occurs to me this (gun allegation) is going to present a problem," Fisher said.

After returning to the Varsity with Perrilloux on Saturday and walking through what happened, Fisher said he has subpoenaed video security tapes that are likely to have captured the entire incident.

"I told Ryan, 'if you had a gun, I don't want that video,' and he told me, 'you get that video, Mr. Fisher,' " Fisher said.

On Sunday, Fisher said he put Perrilloux through a polygraph test, which the quarterback passed, and Fisher described Miles as "relieved" when told how Perrilloux had fared.

Still, regardless of how the legal ramifications of the incident play out, it was clear Monday the incident has returned to frosty the relationship between Miles and Perrilloux, who came out of East St. John as one of the most heralded high school players in the country.

In January, Perrilloux's name surfaced in connection with a joint federal and local counterfeiting investigation in the River Parishes, although Perrilloux was never charged with any crime. In April, he was arrested and issued a summons for allegedly trying to enter a Baton Rouge riverboat casino with someone else's identification.

Those incidents led Miles to suspend Perrilloux from summer workouts, and he was not reinstated until the eve of preseason camp.

Odom, who also was suspended during preseason camp and from the opener against Mississippi State after being arrested twice in less than two weeks for incidents around campus, has not established himself as a serious player on the team.

Ahh... such is handicapping in the SEC.

Roll Tide!!

..........................................................

Bobby

that clearly borders on a bash to Rolltide and the entire SEC as a football entity.

You should go ahead and impose a self inflicted one day ban on yourself for bashing in the wagering forums.

I know you will do the right thing. You always do.

just sayin
