OK guys, sitting home recovering from thyroid surgery and the wife gave me the to do list for christmas...and I need YOUR help..

I am not a gamer. I bought Playstation II a few years ago for my kids and they got bored with it. They spend hours on the computer now and haven't used it in at least a year. I used it for a while to play role playing games (Dungeons and Dragons type stuff not war games like Halo etc) and enjoyed it but also got bored.

We are looking to get a new one as my youngest daughter is 13 now and wants games like Guitar Hero...What system do I get her? X-Box, PS III, or the virtual one (not sure of the name with the tennis etc )...Are they readily available or will I have to do the same as i did for PSII and go to 50 stores before finding it?? I will enjoy the Guitar Hero if they have songs from my Hair Metal days of Motley, Poison, Ratt, ...

thanks in advance...

If I was buying a system for my kids, I would absolutely go with the Nintendo Wii (probably the virtual one you referred to). every family I have talked to that has one plays the games together all the time. It has given their family something to readily do together without having to make plans.

It is not the gamer's choice, but it is great for the family.

have the wii...absolutely love it

the sports game package it comes with sucks after 5 minutes so you have to buy games for it....but every game i have is great and entertaining.

oh yeah, wear the wristband and make sure you get the nunchuck.

thanks BDB...the wristband??? Is it for stability or for effect????

BTW, I absolutely love that picture of Gagne. He was my favorite for years until he dismantled the Sox bullpen....still wish he had turned out better and became the Sox closer and Paps went to the rotation....

He was a major reason for me winning my fantasy league back to back years when he was closing for the Dodgers in on that miraculous run he had...

for the kids, I agree that the wii is the way to go. I actually probably play it more than they do, and I still have never tired of playing wii sports.

BDB -- my niece and nephew have one. They are sports nuts but young. What are your recommendations for sports games for them.

Golf would probably not be of interest and nothing as complex as something like Madden. I've never played on the system before, so I am clueless.

Tiger Woods is good

its a little more complicated than the golf that comes with the game, but graphics and game play are awesome.

they have a new tennis game coming out topspin where the screenshots look great and its singles, not doubles.

you can also hook it up to the internet and download old nintendo games like zelda, mario bros., punch out......

i'm slowly playing my way through zelda these days.

feelgood....gagne should never have gone with the red sox. i guess he got a ring, but he's a closer not a set up guy. other guys are like that too. he would have pitched much better if he was closing....not sure why that is, but it is. but you have the best closer in baseball...i understand why they tried it, but it wasn't meant to be.

wifey got it for me. got it around 5 months back. she called everywhere for a few weeks and finally found one. this time of year its really tough as there is way more demand than there is product at the holiday season. keep calling and try some locations not as close as to where you live. try costcos and kmarts and the non electronic only stores as well.

you can also do ebay and amazon if you don't mind the higher prices.

thanks guys...got my name on a list at a couple stores...

price seemed cheap at 250 but only comes with one controller and no nunchuck controller..

I see 3000 of them on Ebay...I may go that route to get a bundle package...

thanks a lot...much appreciated

Looks like about $500 (on ebay) including shipping for the package you would want if you have multiple kids.

This includes two controllers and two nunchucks with the 14 standard games.

I found a guy in Nashua NH (about 20 miles from me) that is willing to do a bundle package including :

console
2 controllers
2 nunchucks
14 games (sports plus some other 9 game package)

for 425....is that reasonable???

If I wait out the list I am on...I get a unit for 250 then I'd need 4 controllers (2 + 2 nunchuck) and could care less about those 14 games as I want it for Guitar Hero for my daughter and Tiger Woods and maybe Scarface for me)... I would proabably save 75 bucks which would pay for Guitar Hero...

help me guys???? I' m all messed up on pain meds from my operation and can't think straight...

now if I could find one game or 2 to win that kind of money tonight....:142smilie :scared :00hour

If it were me, depending on the games, I'd go for it.

However, you make it seem as if the 14 games are of no interest to you, so that might be irrelevlant.

Maybe look for something with the 2+2 and cheaper.

It just sounds like those 14 games get boring...not the quality of the other big name games i guess...

I am watching one from the same seller that is 279 right now with 50 dollars shipping...I may try to win that auction and see if i can go pick it up and save the shipping...not very ebay saavy....

i also vote for the WII, kids rarely play either the playstation or gamecube any more. took until april of this year to finally find one in stock from last Christmas season, and this year is expected to be the same. as already stated, you can go online with it and purchase the older games for reasonable prices with WII points.

THIS is what i can't wait for to come out..... think last i heard was early 2008. anyone know for sure?
