I have a 4gig IPOD NANO and it's perfect. It's nice and small and it holds plenty of songs.

I don't understand how someone needs 1000songs on an ipod.

I originally had the Nano 8GB before going with the new iTouch. The Nano is very nice. If all your daughter wants to do is listen to music then the 4GB is plenty. If she wants to watch videos then I would suggest the 8GB (especially for movies).
