i notice that there is much discussion about how the officiating may have cost the ravens the game last night (i don't think it did)...i got to thinking about which sport is most effected by the way it is officiated ?

since i only basically follow football..my answer is football...some calls that i have seen have made me scratch my head..

but i do remember when i followed boxing there were a couple of decisions that made me wonder if i was watching the same match as those who kept score...

i would like to hear what others have to say about this....& please let's try to keep the games are fixed angle to a minimum....:mj07: :mj07:

Good question...I've got to think basketball. Points are scored so quickly and fouls can directly relate to points at the foul line.

A call might influence a football game but it doesn't usually guarantee points like basketball. Also, because bball has fouls occurring on a regular basis it's easy to slip in one or two without too much heat.

yeah i guess that the refs can call a foul on every possession in basketball....

HAS to baskets.....so many 'judgment' calls, and no red flags for the coaches. Easiest sport to fix, EVER.

Basketball. The entire pace of the game is controlled by refs when they feel like it. One ref can single-handedly force the total of a game over the number.

mob run sport. refs and players in on the fun. don't cap by numbers, cap by fixes

can't see a boxing ref doing much, but the judges certainly can

american idol is also fixed. simons comments can be used to save or eliminate people.

Agree with basketball but can argue the point that an Umpire squeezing a pitcher on balls and strikes can also have a lot of influence.

Boxing judges can be flat out crooked but they aren't officiating the actual bout.

How do you spot fixes:shrug:

i watch about 5 minutes of the nba each year besides lakers games.

to each his own way of capping, but have great success in the nba in the last 7 or 8 years since doing it seriously.

i cap on shady lines, opening lines, line movement when the big hitters hit, and the buybacks. more often than not the line manipulation and buy back is the right side.

you might have success with nubmers and watching. like i said to each his own.

I have never had much success in hoops, and like you, I do not watch NBA basketball --->other than an occasional Hornets game (in person). Just curious what you looked at to spot fixes. I believe in fixed games, particularly basketball, but I have never believed those who claim they are in the "know". If they are in the know, then they wouldn't be posting about it to strangers in cyberspace. What you are saying makes plenty of sense to me.

It is also hardest to detect in basketball. If a player draws a couple of ticky-tack fouls in the first half he isn't as agressive the rest of the game. Also, his butt will probably be on the bench for a great deal of the first half.

As the number increases so does officiating scrutiny. Two years ago was the peak of games that would have been affected if the winning team had one basket removed and the losing team had one basket added would have changed approximately 41.2% of all NBA otucomes. That is one three second call and one charging call. I would have to say basketball is a close second to the Iditarod.

I have seen many a Profesional Wrestling match influenced by a referee out of position. Especialy in tag team matches. I don't think it is anything crooked just too much mayhem for one man to keep up with. They should consider putting another man in the ring or at least at ringside. There is too much action and momentum to use instant replay. It's a tough one.
