Former American League MVP Miguel Tejada finally got his wish for a change of scenery, as he was traded Wednesday from the Baltimore Orioles to the Houston Astros.
In exchange, the Orioles will receive outfielder Luke Scott, pitchers Matt Albers, Troy Patton and Dennis Sarfate, and third baseman Michael Costanzo. In dealing Tejada, the Orioles freed themselves from the remaining two years and $32 million on the four-time All-Star's existing contract.

No big loss

No big loss

Ever since the league began cracking down on steroid use, he's become a singles hitter only..hits into tons of Double Plays and not clutch anymore..with a bit of an attitude to boot..from reports I heard he tried to operate to his own set of rules which the mgr called him on....so losing a overpaid singles hitter with limited range in the field with an attitude, no problem...now getting a bunch of Astros is questionable but at least they aren't overpaid.

Good trade for orioles. The orioles are going no where near the playoffs for awhile and needed to get rid of Tejada.

Of course a year and a half ago orioles were close to completing a trade with houston of Tejada for Oswalt but the astros backed out when they learned the orioles were going to spin oswalt to texas for Texiera.

Getting five for one makes this trade in the orioles favor. Patton and Albers immediately add depth to the rotation and at least one shoulld be on opening day rotation. Safarte will add depth to a weak pen. Scott becomes our everyday left fielder unless he gets traded in a package with Bedard or Roberts. Costanzo starts in triple a norfolk and could end up at first base or third depending on how Scott Moore performs.

Tejada will help boost the astros lineup bigtime and will hit 25-30 homers and drive in 110+ runs in that ball park. My problem with houston giving up the two starters is that their rotation has depth problems and is depending on Wandy and Sampson returning from injuries.

I hope the Astros can pull off a trade for some pitching. Don't forget they traded away Lidge. I hope they are more exciting this year at least. They need a closer and some more starting pitching.

Well, my suspicisions were on the money-Tejada on roids

Well, my suspicisions were on the money-Tejada on roids

Astros pick up a singles hitter off the juice and traded like he was a 30 homer 120 RBI guy...and now they have a guy with a steroid rap..and traded the day before the Mitchell report...way to go Os!!!

The only risk on the Astros end was giving up Patton.
Luke Scott sucks and has proven that.
Albers not a great starter, might be better served as setup man. Sarfate has some serious heat, but is unproven.

Bottomline is Houston is always a WIN NOW franchise. That is why the farm system is terrible.
Another example is trading Burke And Gutierez for Valverde. Good deal, but again they unload younger players for experience.

They need a 2 starter and he is not out there. They are talking Mark Prior,Livan H. type. They really Backe to be healthy and good this season.

I wouldnt go as far as saying Scott sucks. I think if he gets a chance to play everyday will put up numbers very similiar to Tejadas.

The news out of Bmore is that Miggy is actually 36 not 31.

And look at ops over last two seasons.

Tejada
06 877
07 799

Scott
06 1047
07 855

I think Tejada has a bounce back year due to houstons park but Scott should put up better numbers on average over the next few seasons.

You must not follow Scott's career which is more than understandable.
Houston gave him the everyday job 2 seasons ago after the Break and he tore it up for a month straight so they gave him the everyday job this season and was the everyday guy all season(except vs. lefties because he cant hit them)
After 3 months of everyday he was hitting around .230 with 9 homers and 35 rbis.
Also he cant hit lefty AT ALL. He hit .271 vs. them last season, but only 59AB. He is a good glove man,but an average arm at best. Also, he is 30 and has only 1 real season in the majors.

Not sure Tejada is much of an answer, but they were going nowhere with those guys the next 2 seasons and Everett was killing them at the plate.
Scott was out because they have Pence,Lee, and Bourn in the outfield.

O's win this trade over the long haul. Patton looks like he could be a stud and Sarfate could become a BJ Ryan type.

Astros projected lineup:
1 Bourn, 2 Kaz Matsui, 3 Tejada, 4 Berkman, 5 Carlos Lee, 6 Pence, 7 Ty Wiggington(3B), 8 JR Towles(C).

I prefer Pence 2 and Matsui 7. Tejada should see many good pitches with Berkman and Lee behind him.

Best offensive lineup in Astros history by far. They will need it based on the pitching staff.
