who presently hold office...ie senator, governor, etc & run for another political office should permantently step aside from his/her present position ?

these politicians who are running for the presidency are spending quite a bit of time away from their present jobs & are not giving their constituency (sp ?) a fair deal. i wonder how many days of work have people like mccain, clinton, obama, etc.missed....& are still getting paid.

imo this is another example of the politicians not giving a shit about the voters...

Fair points, AR. I also think it would keep down the people giving it a shot that currently hold an office, which I'm not sure if that would be good or bad.

Doesn't seem right - also those that avoid votes to head off future controversy and political repercussions later.

I think there is a difference between being a senator and a governor. A governor should be around because he is the boss of his state. A senator really doesn't have to be in Washington to know what is going on. He may miss a few votes but if anything was important for him to vote on he could always fly in and make a vote that would make or break a bill.

Def. don't agree on Senators. Agree with what Stevie said, and also, appointment of replacements would be a partisan clusterf*ck, esp. with the Senate so equally divided and Senate control potenially hanging in the balance.

AR,
I agree with Stevie D. The issue is this- how could we get a bill passed to force politicians who hold office to step aside when running for another public position?-Who would vote for to get out of committee except maybe Ron Paul?

The next time your senator or congressman runs, write a letter to your editor and ask others in that letter if they believe as you do. Find a way to have this questioned posed at the debates. If there is support for your idea you could start something. Most politicians will go for and support anything if it stands in the way of their next election. We need to dictate their platforms. Most of these people are blank slates, it's up to us to fill in the blanks. We the people need to become a special interest group. We as individuals can't match their cash but We have a vote. We need new voters, the core of both parties despises new voters. Every voter in this country needs to get one new voter. I'm going to get mine in every election until I die . I'm talking local state and federal. It's not easy, if someone tryed to take away your power, would you let it go with out a fight ? Tonight all over the world, people are meeting covertly, plotting to find a way to hold free election with their lives on the line. What I'm writing and thinking will cost someone his or hers tonight in other countries. It's not easy but ..............

stevie...

i understand your point but i think the least politicans can do is take an unpaid leave of absence to apply for a new job.the people of a state voted a senator into office to watch out for their well being & do the jobs that a senator is supposed to do.

i wonder how many days did these presidential hopefuls lost by seeking the holy grail...imo it's another thing that's wrong with our political system...but i could be wrong..

GW...you are nuts!!!!!!! :142smilie

Just my opinion Al but I think Senators can work from home. No need to be surrounded by lobbyist every second of the day.
