Jed is Elly May's father.

Ellys mother was Granny's daughter.

It was revealed in an early episode that Jed's wife, Elly may's mom, died when Elly was a baby, she drank her self to death one weekend on Granny's moonshine after she discovered that Jed had been sleeping with his first cousin, Pearl Clampett Bodine.

Jed fathered Pearl's twins, Jethro and Jethrine, born in 1944.

Pearl's husband, Jasper [Jazzbo] Bodine, was killed in Decemeber, 1942 while in basic training for the US Army in WW2 at Ft. Benning, Ga. when a still he was operating blew up.

Pearl told everyone that he had planted the seed that fathered the twins before he left for the Army in Nov, 1942.

Since no one in the hills was too good at ciphering, no one questioned why Pearls kids weren't born till 15 mos.after J. Bodine had left for the Army.

Jazzbo Bodine did father a son during his short stay at Ft. Benning with a prostitute named Donna May Depew.

Their son, Jasper [Jazzbo] Depew became a traveling salesman and ironically met and married Jethrine Bodine.

They had 11 children, 3 of whom became regulars on "Hee-Haw."

Jed Clampett always treated Jethro like a son, though to keep up the charade he always referred to Jethro as his nephew.

Jed also fathered another child, while in Hot Springs, Ark. in 1946, selling raccoon furs.

And that child grew up to be the 42nd President of the US, Wm. Jefferson Clinton.

From a Bev Hill blog....

"My favorite line used in a multitude of episodes was Jed saying about Jethro, "Someday I'm going to have to have a long talk with that boy". In one episode Ellie Mae finally asks him, "Well why don't you, Pa?" to which Jed responds.. "cause the short ones have been so disheartenin". Hysterical..."
