interesting topic....
1) Food counter person at a convience store.
no tip for me also
2) Pick-up counter at a Pizza Shop
no tip...same
3) Roadside take-out stand
no tip..same
4) Apple Bee's Curbside Pick-Up
don't use them
5) Buffet's
15%....i'll tip 10-15% depending what the waiters bring to the table..
6)Haircut or Beardtrim...
the guy i use (owns the place) charges me $6 to trim my beard..so i give him $10 & tell him to keep the change...haircut costs me $12..so i usually give him $20 & tell him to keep the change...
I mostly agreed with Al here. I was a bartender in college, so I try to tip something to most people. Most in this line of work are students, elderly supplementing ssi, or working single moms. They aren't getting rich, just trying to scrape out a living.
1, food counter-if this person is making your meal (breakfast, lunch), and serving it to me. Presumably pouring coffee, or drink. I would definitely tip something, even if only 1 or 2 bucks. You would tip your bartender night? And often he is only opening or pouring a beer.
2. Pizza or sub takeout. If it's the owner, generally not. Again, if it's a student, or single mom, generally tip something, even if it's a buck, or just the change. Local places you frequent often, you get to know the people. If their good people, I try to tip them. For instance young female neighbor or mine opens Duncan doughnuts at 4 a.m., goes home & sleeps, goes to subway & works 4-9 p.m. saving for college. In all consciousness, can't not tip someone like that.
3 road side-same thoughts, if owner probably not.
4. Curb side-if it is a drive through, grabbing your food from the window, probably not. If someone is walking the order out to my car, probably tip something. Remember, most waitress type jobs are making under minimum wage, because tips are considered a major percentage of their wages.
5. Buffet. Definitely tip something, these are generally bus boys that make nothing. if they are bringing drinks, filling water & tea (Chinese restaurant) without having to ask repeatedly. They usually are always clearing used plates & glasses Also.
6. I have never heard of someone not giving a tip to whoever cuts your hair. Man that's asking to be scalped:scared
I guess as a rule, I usually tip someone who is trying to perform their job well, and make your experience or visit a positive one. If someone acts like they don't give a shit, gives no effort, screws up order, makes me continually ask them for service etc. etc. would tip much less or nothing. Guess what I'm trying to say is, I would tip more regarding the persons effort & attitude, than what or where they worked, if that makes sense.
Interesting discussion.
