Roty Joan of Arc Medallion

Are there any coin/medal collectors here? In the process of cleaning out the attic in my old house (previous tenant's stuff) I found this coin. It is larger than a silver dollar and is bronze. It is signed O. Roty and depicts a woman being burned at the stake with the words, "MA MISSION ETAIT DE DIEV" and the reverse is her looking up to the sky toward an angel with the words, "VA FILLE AV GRAND COEVR".

When I googled the quoted words I found a link to the American Numismatic Society with a description of the coin. It is listed as ANS 1959.148.105. It reflects that the medallion was engraved of Joan of Arc and is dated 1895. I have searched and searched but can't find anything more, nor a picture. How can I find out whether it has any value? Any suggestions?

Maybe take it to a local coin dealer for more insight. I have a friend that deals in coins but I need a pic or more detail. He would help you ID it.

I have found several examples of Roty's work but nothing that matches this one. His signature is easily visible on both sides but the only thing that reflected the possible age was the one entry on the ANS description listing.

On one side of the coin, an Angel calls Joan from the fields, and it is written: "Go, Daughter of Great Heart." Rev. Saint burning at the stake, with writing: " My Mission was from God"...Made by Louis-Oscar Roty, FRANCE. Joan of Arc Medal, 1895. Not sure of the value of a bronze edition, but the silver, uncirculated, mint, is worth around $480. The solid silver version does not feature the halo on Joan's head one the side with her tied to the stake however.

I guess it won't let me post my email here...lol...oops! Ok....How about ************and you can let me know if you still have this and you want to sell it....lol. If not, it is still a very nice piece. Like I said, the solid silver one went for auction for $480 but I didn't know about the auction, so I didn't even get to bid on it. That was a mint one, so I'm not sure what a bronze one is worth, but if you want to sell, we'll figure it out because I've been looking for one of these.

I'm not really interested in selling it but thanks for the offer. My husband and I have tickets for the Antiques Roadshow in Raleigh on June 27th. Even though they aren't evaluating coins at that location, we're going to take it along just to see if anyone can direct us in our research.

Let us all know what the Antique Road Show tells you - I am very interested to learn what the bronze one is worth. I've only seen the silver one. Of course, I'm not a collector - I just wanted to make a pendant out of one. Again, please do tell when you find out as the Newbie (lol) would like to know, too.

A.R. wasn't too impressed with the medallion. The appraiser said that it's value was about $75-$100 based on collectible value of the engraver's works. The indication was that it might be worth more to a collector of Joan of Arc collectibles.

All in all, the trip to the Roadshow was a bust although we had fun! A porcelain clock I took was valued at about $50-$75, my great grandfather's 14kg pocket watch was valued at about $350-$400 and my big treasure of the day, a loaded gold charm bracelet was valued at about $800-$1400.

Basically it was standing a long time in lines only to be told that your stuff is junk and feeling like you'd wasted the appraiser's time. The highlight of the day was the grandfather's clock that took a nosedive off it's dolly and made lots of noise!
