Hey Blitz,
I run a 4-4 stack and every once in a while I move it too a watered down version of the old "46" but mainly stay in the 4-4. I blitz my corners a lot and have the sam and will rotate out if there is a need for outside coverage or containment. It is very effective as you can stack your two biggest boys right over the A gaps and it pretty much precludes anything up the middle and allows youto protect the corners against the sweep and otuside traps. We do an incredible amount of blitzing also. I generally send at least three every play but there are different hand signals and color calls for each.

That's funny, because I was looking at going with the 4-4 this year. We are moving up a level, we call it Jr. Pee Wee (10 & 11 year olds). I went to a coaches clinic about a month or 2 ago and a local High School coach had a class on his teams 4-4. I liked it a lot and I got a copy of a condensed version of his Defensive play book.

Blitz, Sorry so long on the reply I actually have a complete playbook and position explanation of each player on the defense I run and could get it into a pdf file if you wish and try to email it to you if you like. The only issue that most have with the 4-4 is that many think that it leaves the corners exposed and easily blocked in a typical three guard pull sweep. My answer to that has always been to blitz both corners early and often and have your FS and Will backer rotate out to the corner and will usually get there largely unblocked as it is not practiced against at this level very often. Therefore I try to have some athletic corners rather than hiding a weaker player there. Anyway, You get the gyst of it and I will be happy to send you what I have get my email from Jack.
