Came into this forum expecting to see some serious discussion on the UEFA Champions League, but noticed nary a thread.....

Sure some of you must have thoughts on the Final - help out some of us degenerates and let us know who's going to hoist the cup tomorrow

Well I will start it.
The two teams went 1-1-1 against each other this season in regulation. The tie was the Community Shield game which ManU won on penalty kicks to start the season.
The two regular season games had each home team win and each team scored on a PK.

This is a pick your poison game. Rooney/Ronaldo or do you go with Ballack/Drogba.

Defense favors ManU as they didn't allow a single goal in last 4 UEFA games vs. Barcelona and Roma.

Chelsea has a better attack and knows ManU better than those teams though.

I am going CHELSEA(+220) for 100.LOSER

Also playing a parlay:
DRAW(+200)
UNDER 2.5 GOALS
50 wins 150
WINNER

I think Chelsea wants this one BAD and have more talent from position to position. They have more bench power for sure.

+50 for the game.

Thanks kegray1 - very limited knowledge of soccer although I do try to brush every 4 years for the World Cup

Think I remember seeing that there was another English Club still alive in the final 4 teams, and that had not happened in a while? and if so does that have any significance (English Clubs rising to the top to try to stop the perennial powerhouses?)

Automatic thought as a capper in general is that ManU is much more of a household name, not to mention the -140 fave, so worldwide $ from jerks like me who haven't made a soccer play since '06 will most likely be coming in on ManU - in my mind that makes Chelsea a potential contrarian play if nothing else

rambling thoughts at best (based partially on memories that may not exist) - just wondering whether or not my workday tomorrow will be enhanced by a live dog

At times this season it seemed like Chelsea was almost bored and just going through the motions.
Chelsea had a scoring drought of sorts from Dec to Feb., but really picked it up after that.
This is how I see it by position:
Goalie- Slight Advantage Chelsea. Cech is just plain better than Vandersaar.
Defense-Slight Advantage ManU. Brown and Ferdinand are rocks. Terry and Cole are solid though.
Midfield- Too Close to call. Ronaldo is awesome and Scholes finds ways to get it done, but Lampard and attacking Ballack are equal.
Forward- Slight Advantage to Chelsea. Give me Drogba anyday over overhyped Rooney.
Bench-Slight Advntage Chelsea. Can come with more offense with Anelka or Shevchenko.

Dont know if this helps, but gives you an idea what to watch for.

Flapjack needs to chime in. He knows his stuff these days.

I would take his opinion.

I'm looking forward to the game, Man U should be the slight favorite which they are,...I dont see any value.

I expect a closely contested game, a draw is a real possibility here...

Not that I would consider myself a real buff when it comes down to Englisch football....

Well I obviously displayed my ignorance on the subject well - 1st time 2 English teams have met in the final

If I play it will most likely be a play on who will win the league, esp hearing from you guys that a draw is a good possibility

Better to go EURO 2008

Better to go EURO 2008

for us bettors on Soccer games is tougher than all other sports as there are 3 possible results (not 2 as all others) so my judgement tells me to go to EURO 2008 as there is real value in some games and some odd teams are being favored

but el JB for this match you can cut it down to 2 results as ultimately one team will win the Cup - are you saying that you wouldn't want to have your fate decided by penalty kicks if in fact it does come down to that?

Unload on Croatia at -120 vs Austria in the Euro. I pounded that line as soon as it went up. Home field advantage is bigger in soccer than in any other major sport and the host countries have a consistant tendency of overachieving in the Euro's and World Cup. So maybe that is why a vastly superior Croatia is almost even odds to an awful Austria team who would have never come close to qualifying for this if they didnt get the automatic bid for hosting. But, the home field in Vienna won't mean all that much as the fans will be more evenly split in a tourney like this. Croatia will absolutley dominate the Austrians and look to build up their goal differential as they will still have to face Germany and Poland. It would the Austrians playing their absolute best and the Croats their worst for this game to be tight. They lost their best scoring threat, De Silva, due to injury, but it wont matter.
