So much for RHP Matt Garza explaining what happened during Sunday's heated confrontations with C Dioner Navarro or expounding on what he needed "to fix", as he mentioned nearly a dozen times.
Moments after the clubhouse opened to the media this afternoon, Rays PR man Chris Costello said Garza would have nothing to say today on the incident - which has been getting significant national media attention - and preferred to let the comments he made Sunday stand on the issue.

Rays manager Joe Maddon is more likely to address the subject when he holds his media session closer to game time.

The Rays lineup has a different look, as B.J. Upton gets a turn at DH, giving him a chance to get off his feet after a busy weekend in the Texas heat. Justin Ruggiano is in center, and hitting second, against lefty Joe Saunders.

Here is the lineup:
Iwamura, 2b
Ruggiano, cf
Crawford, lf
Upton, dh
Longoria, 3b
Aybar, 1b
Navarro, c
Gross, rf
Bartlett, ss
Jackson, p

Before losing Sunday to the A's, the Angels had been on a tremendous roll, having won seven straight. Still, they won their seventh consecutive series. They are doing it, much like the Rays, with pitching and defense. Their starters lead the majors with 32 wins, closer Francisco Rodriguez is 26-for-27 in saves, and they entered Sunday sharing the major-league lead (with the Rays) in fielding percentage. Offensively it has been something of a struggle ? they've been held to four or fewer runs 39 times (including 13 straight May 20-June 2) but are 19-20 in those games.

Key stat: The Angels are
28-3 when scoring first.
