AC/DC jumps on current trend of Wal-Mart sales

June 10, 2008

NEW YORK -- AC/DC's next studio album will be exclusively sold at Wal-Mart stores in the United States, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

The untitled album, which was produced by Brendan O'Brien, is expected in the fall. AC/DC becomes the latest veteran act to pact exclusively with the retail giant, following Garth Brooks, the Eagles and Journey. The Eagles' ''Long Road Out of Eden'' has sold more than 2.98 million copies in the United States.

The new AC/DC album is the hard rock act's first since 2000's ''Stiff Upper Lip,'' which has shifted more than 930,000 copies.

This is right up there with the idiots that only sell there stuff at Starbucks. Another business I miss. They also sell nothing I want.

Sing it, sista! Those ten minutes spent in the hellhole known as Walmart negates any pleasure you may get from the album.

I love AC/DC, but unless someone sends me a burned copy, this one will be a no-go for me.

There are two here within 200 yards of each other.

One in a Barnes and Noble and the other right across the strip mall.

Insane.

pretty dumb. How much longer are we going to be buying cds retail like this anyway?? I can't even remember the last one I bought.

Starbucks... I think that is some nasty, bitter coffee. I think John Conti sludge is better than Starbucks.

You might be able to get it without having to deal with all that ghetto mess. There's this thing they call the internet and a lot of times if you put a ".com" after the name of the business and type it in that white bar at the top of your screen, it takes you to a "website". There you can buy the same thing that the store offers without ever leaving the house. It's pretty cool.

Starbucks to cut up to 12,000 jobs, close 600 stores :sadwave:

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Starbucks Corp (SBUX.O) said on Tuesday it plans to close another 500 underperforming stores and eliminate as many as 12,000 full- and part-time positions, lifting shares nearly 6 percent.

The company, which now plans to close a total of 600 underperforming stores versus its previous estimate of 100, said the majority of the stores will be closed by the end of March 2009.

Starbucks estimated that total pretax charges associated with the planned U.S. company-operated store closures, including costs associated with severance, would be in the range of $328 million to $348 million.

The nation's largest coffee chain said 70 percent of the stores targeted for closure have been open since the beginning of fiscal 2006. The job losses would represent about 7 percent of the company's global work force.

The company aggressively opened stores in areas such as California and Florida, which have been hardest hit by the U.S. housing downturn. Some investors have pushed the company to increase the number of store closures.

Starbucks also said it will open fewer than 200 new U.S. company-operated stores in fiscal 2009, down from 250 previously.

The stock rose to $16.53 in late electronic trading, up 5.8 percent from its close of $15.62 on Nasdaq.
