IMHO - this is the worst move the Packers could have made. There is a tremendous amount of Anti- Ted Thompson sentiment around here. People are pissed. People aren't mad at Aaron Rodgers (how could you be - the guy has been class through this whole thing) - but people are steamed at TT - it is an ego thing for him, since he drafted Rogers.

The thing is, 50% of the time that Rodgers has gotten more than 5 snaps in a game, he has ended up leaving the game due to injury. Everyone here knows that he will be lucky to play 8 games this year, as he will get hurt. And, unfortunately, he is not very good - we've seen that already this year.

Brian Brohm (2nd round pick from Louisville) will likely be the starter by mid-season due to injury. And that won't be good.

The bad thing for us Packer fans is that with Favre we were a Super Bowl contender again this year.

Now, seriously, I can't see the Packers being better than 8-8. It is a MUCH tougher schedule for the Packers than last year. Yea, 8 wins will be about it.

Time to look at the futures board and see what is posted for # of wins for the Packers. It will undoubtedly be an "Under.

How is this the worst move the Packers could have made?

The rest of your post is assumptions.

I know this much, the jets are better off with him,
than without him. And the Packers are worse off
without him, than with him. I think any reasonable
person would acknowledge that. Let's see how
this unfolds into say week 6 or 7. Which QB is left
standing. I'll put my money on the proven winner.
I understand some of you hate BF or at least are
sick and tired of hearing about him. So am I. But
strickly talking football, GB fu$ked up. NY just
improved their lot with a proven durable winner.
You can't argue with that.

I know Ted Thompson hasn't made too many mistakes in the past.

Exactly. This guy took a team that was left with shit from the Sherman era (horrible, horrible drafts) and turned it into a contender fairly quickly. The anti-Thompson people keep bringing up his "ego" just as they did with the Grant contract talks. And those ended up just fine.

His biggest mistake was not signing a vet backup QB in case Rodgers goes down again. But other than that, I can't fault Thompson much. Obviously if Favre leads the Jets to the playoffs and Rodgers gets hurt, it's gonna look bad. But Thompson has produced results time and time again.

It was a HUGE mistake - he even admitted making mistakes during this process during the press conference.

They have everybody back from last year, except Favre now of course. The NFL is about today, not building for the future. Too much parity and injuries play too much of a role in the game to worry about 3 years from now.

Let's see - last year the Pack was 13-3 and made it to the NFC Conference Championship game. Their QB was the Pro Bowl starter and 2nd in the league in MVP voting (behind Brady).

Given that, to be a successful season, they will have to at least duplicate that.

Do you really think Rodgers is up to that? Do you think Rodgers will be the NFC starter in the Pro Bowl and finish 2nd in the MVP voting? Do you think he can lead the Pack to 13 wins and the conference championship game?

Those questions are easy: No, No, and No.

But we know Brett Favre can do all of the above - he did it last year. And Favre is not only the ONLY player to win 3 MVP's consecutively - he's the only player to even win 3 MVP's period.

We'll be regretting this trade for years in GB. Rodgers will be gone within 2 years.

And I'd be willing to bet the farm that Rodgers will never finish 2nd in the MVP voting, much less ever win it.

When you have a guy that can do all those things, you don't let him go for a guy that has never started a game and only threw 1 TD pass in his career! :mj07:

Aaron Rodgers? MVP in '08? Yea, that'll happen. There is a much better chance of him getting hurt or benched. Heck, he couldn't even scrimmage against the 2nd team very well.

Give me the greatest QB to every play the game any day!

How many 1st year starters have led their teams to the NFC (or AFC) championship game?

Well same could be said for Farve, his GLORY days are behind him, Rodgers will grow into a good NFL QB. This moves gives them a chance to compete for a superbowl in 2-3 years, they werent going to win it with Farve this year either so whos driving a bus headed nowhere doesnt really matter, PACKERS SURPRISE run has everyone up in arms, but they werent going nowhere with this Farve guy, lets NOT FORGET-----HE IS 3-7 IN PLAYOFF GAMES OVER HIS LAST 10!!!

Wow - the guy was voted the 2nd best player in the whole NFL last year - and yet his glory days are behind him? Where do you think Rodgers will finish in the MVP voting this year?

Only 2 teams did better than the Pack last year - NY Giants and NE. Those are the only 2 teams who advanced farther than GB.

I'd rather have Favre, and be competitive with a chance for a SB (which they obviously would have, since they almost made it last year) than Rodgers - where they probably won't even make the playoffs.

This year will be ugly - starting with Sept 8th against Minnesota.

Who finished 2nd for the rushing title lastyear? Who finished 2nd in TDs scored? I cant remember because second is the first loser...THE PACKERS HAD A GREAT SURPRISING YEAR, but to give all the CREDIT to FARVE is a little fetched I would say, how about what GRANT did to and for this team, how about the defense being one of the better in the league? Did he even have better numbers then Romo? I said as I told my Packer fan friend, GREAT YEAR, SNUCK UP ON ALOT OF TEAMS and played above their heads, this year with everyone LOOKING for them and knowing of the RUNNING GAME and DEFENSE would/will be ALOT different. Out of all the wins they amassed lastyear how many did FARVE put them on his back and carry them for? My credit would go to DEFENSE AND RUNNING GAME!!

On the course!
You know, I'm more inclined to think last year was a Favre fluke, and we are more apt to see Favre of '05-'06 show up before '08 again.

Oh, how one good year made so many forget how they wanted this guy to pack his bags two years ago..............

I guess we'll never know.

How about Packer fans just back the Pack?

You wouldn't believe the people around here that think he will take them to the Super Bowl this year!

I guess Marino and Montana would be better choices than Rodgers too, by that logic.

It gets mighty cold in the Meadowlands, and Buffalo, and New England.......and Mr Favre aint been likin' the cold much lately.

IF Rodgers comes out and does what Thompson believes he can do, a lot of people in Green Bay will, A) eat their words, and B) forget what number Brett wore!

We are a fickle bunch, and winning cures a shitload of ills.
