looks like best bet on hotels are in jersey? but what about getting to the park

Best bet might be in Jersey for hotels, unless you want to pay an arm and a leg to stay in Manhattan.

As for getting to the game, are you going to have a car? Lot will depend on where in Jersey you stay I guess, but driving near Yankee Stadium is brutal right now, especially with the new stadium construction in progress.

You just staying one night and the main purpose is the game? If that's the case stay across the river and save the cash, will be easy enough to get to the stadium. Nothing to see in the Bronx worth 500 a night in my opinion.

Im actually flying in on sat eve and leaving on tues..so three nights. If I stay in jersey i was thinking i would just use cabs to get around. Staying there would save me around 500-600 at least . Sounds like the best idea. Unless its gonna cost me 50 everytime i get in a cab, but doubt it cause the hotel is only 5 miles away according to travel websites.

What town is the hotel? Should be able to give you a better answer then.

Feel free to get my email from Jack and I'll answer any question I can.

flew into JFK from buffalo for the all-star game. stayed at the Grand Union (midtown manhattan) paid $160 a night for the four nights. took the subway everywhere. wife went to a play (box and one helped with the half price tickets) and had dinner at carmine's near times square (thanks again box) I love ny, we go a couple times a year. think I would check craigslist or ebay but you might be better off going to the stadium and scalping them at game time. the subway ride from the hotel to the stadium was probably 30 minutes and wasn't bad at all. good luck and have a great time...

you can probably fly into jfk or laguardia, though laguardias closer to manhattan so it's easier a little bit...
forget about staying in nj, without a car, if you're going to yankee stadium.....it can be done but you would need public transportation to penn then the 1 train uptown for a good 30-45 mins to the stadium packed like a sardine........if you want to do nj, try hoboken or jersey city, wont be cheap but cheaper than manhattan....its only a very short ride to manhatan, than you can subway which is easy......
of course, if $ is no object find somewhere in manhattan since you're right in the action.....anywhere midtown or upper, then subway as noted (check nyc pub transp website for a map)........a 3rd option which could work too....stay in lower westchester, nice and not far from bronx, and pub transp or cab to the game......then you can take metro north train to nyc for the sightseeing also, very easy and cheap......have fun in New York, I loved visiting chicago last month in the opposide situation you're doing, saw the city and a cubs game...
