I've got a friend taking a stats class and he is having trouble with probability. I made an A in the class... but its been so long ago.

I am showing him the probability of drawing two aces out in a row, 3 aces out in a row, and 4 aces out in a row. Will someone please check my math to make sure i'm correct?

Ok... the P of drawing one ace out 4/52=1/13

2 aces in a row. 1/13 x 3/51 = 1/221

3 aces in a row 1/13 x 3/51 x 2/50(1/25) = 1/5525

4 aces in a row 1/13 x 3/51 x 1/25 x 1/49 = 1/270725

I believe I'm correct...

The most difficult class I had in undergrad was stats. I was saved because two of the five finals questions dealt with probability in poker and craps, respectively.

The stats classes I took go way beyond this shit into z-tests, f-tests, and t-tests, hypothesis testing, and all kinds of shit that is just incredibly frustrating.

I asked the dice question just to get a few opinions, I have a firm belief on what is the correct answer.

I don't know if I can do that...

I know it wouldn't be 1/6 x 1/6 x 1/6 x 1/6 x 1/6 would it?

And bj, I will find out if i'm accepted to bham school of law in a couple weeks... if so I start in January

I hated all that shit...

I absolutely despise math... but stats was easier to me because you can actually understand why you are doing something.

i think yo ucan at the introductory parts, but once you get into those tests... its all looking at charts and memorizing formulas and getting confrused as shit

I wrote all the formulas on my desk before the tests...

IMO.. why in the hell do you need to memorize them?

and plus you have computers that do all that shit for you now:00hour

well i dont want you to die

heres my thought

the first roll doesnt matter

the 2nd roll you need to match so its 1/6
and same for hte 3rd 1/6
and the 4th 1/6
and the 5th 1/6

so

its 1/6 to the 4th power or

1/6*1/6*1/6*1/6

I was thinking about rolling them all at the same time... so the probability would be 1 in 7776 times the #'s would all show up the same.

no... think about it in terms of cards ... what are the odds of drawing 4 of the same card... do you start by goin 4/52 or 52/52 cuz it can be any card to "get it going"?

oooooooooo i understand now...

But if you already had a set # before you started... then the odds would be 6 to the 5th instead of 6 to the 4th
