The vast majority of states automatically restore a convicted felon's right to vote once released from confinement or upon completion of their parole. Other states place restrictions on this based on the type of crime that a person was convicted for and then we have states like Maine and Vermont who do not revoke the right to vote regardless of a felony conviction of any kind.

This "right" to vote for felons has been debated for years and is really a non-issue and as the posted article clearly states, has no bearing on Obama whatsoever.

Don't tell me you think ACORN is recuiting Rebs---why do you think Libs what their disenfranchised felons to be able to vote and conservatives are against it--any thoughts on why the don't want it necessary for voters to have ids?

Do you think the above remotely are connected--or coincidence:shrug:

The reality is, however, that felons lose a lot of their rights, including the right to vote while they are incarcerated. In fact, Felon Voting identifies ten states where felons are barred from voting for an indefinite amount of time. There are various steps in each location for felons to attempt to restore their rights, but in some cases, there is no way for the offender to regain citizenship status.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

and 13% of black men in U.S. have lost right to vote via felonies and you think it wouldn't help Obama--OK -if you say so. :)

Twenty states offer a less harsh form of the restriction barring only those in prison, on parole, or probation from voting. Five states, including Colorado prevent felons from voting while on parole or in prison. Currently, in Colorado alone almost 30,000 people are incarcerated. While another thirteen states allow felons to vote after their release from prison there are only two states in the nation, Maine and Vermont that do not revoke a felon's right to vote at any time.

It's a fact that committing a crime, or more so, being convicted of a crime results in a loss of priveledges. However, since the Reagan administration the number of people in the United States who are or have been incarcerated has skyrocketed and in states where private prisons are utilized, the rate of increase is astounding. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, at the end of 2004, 1,496,629 people were incarcerated in this country. The Straight Dope notes that the rate of incarceration in the United States is 701 per 100,000.

In Colorado with a 2006 estimated population of 4,515,708, aged 18 or older, the prison votes wouldn't totally change election results but if you count in all the convicted felons who don't vote because they believe they can't, there could be a sizeable impact.

Hmm maybe I need opinion from the other side--nope same results.

If state law allows them to vote, then, they should be allowed to have registration assistance and vote.

If you want to change the laws, you have to get them changed in Congress or the state legislatures.

THERE IS NOTHING ILLEGAL GOING ON HERE.

i'm all for the following laws to be passed:

must show valid state id to vote and must have a job or own property to vote

enough with the dregs on society casting their ballots for the person giving them the most

Actually, it is illegal to vote in Florida if you have been stripped of that right.
It's a third-degree felony for ineligible voters to knowingly cast ballots and for campaign workers and voters to submit false registration forms.
I did not do a good job of making my point in my earlier post. What I meant to convey is that it is unfair to categorize the problem in Florida as being brought on by Obama's camp as Florida's elections chief, Secretary of State Kurt Browning, acknowledged "his staff has failed to remove thousands of ineligible felons because of a shortage of workers and a crush of new registrations in this critical swing state." These felons are not newly registered voters.
More than 30,000 Florida felons who by law should have been stripped of their right to vote remain registered to cast ballots in this presidential battleground state, a Sun Sentinel investigation has found.

Many are faithful voters, with at least 4,900 turning out in past elections.

Another 5,600 are not likely to vote Nov. 4 ? they're still in prison.

all you have to look at is the ...what?...12 to 15 states with ongoing investigations into voter fraud exclusive to acorn to realize what`s going on here....

this isn`t some accident...it`s systemic....along with the democrat party`s push to allow illegal aliens...and assorted other people to vote with basically little to no i.d.....

voting without proper i.d.?,,,,what exactly in this world can you do without proper i.d.?...

the answer should be "nothing of substance" unless you`re an anarchist...

the dems are pissed and they don`t care one whit how they obtain power .....

Get a grip DTB.

They aint voting anyway:shrug:

Dogs, is there a point to this?

The point is that Dogs thinks that there is a huge conversation going on in prisons (the blacky's)to vote for democrats. The shit he comes up with is so ridiculous but then you look where he gets it from and you realize why he brings it up. This has nothing to do with votes and everything to do with trying to divide people. Get them all worked up for nothing. I can't even get some factory workers to vote let alone trying to get criminals to take some time out of their schedules to vote. Silly shit.
There is some new shit coming out of the National Inquirer Fox and dogs should be focusing on shortly. Another of these guilt by associating stories.

Isn't the secretary of state a republican. If that is so, then he or she, like her predecessor will make sure that the appropriate votes are counted and the inappropriate votes are not counted. In other words, McCain will be certified as the winner of Florida.

why would it be fair to not let someone who committed a crime served there dues to society not be allowed to vote? Isnt it enough that they can barely get a half decent job, think about how long they REALLY serve a sentence for.....its a life sentence regardless pf what the judge serves....you pay your dues and then you are JUDGED and looked down upon for your entire adult life. What happened to doing you penalty and serving your time or whatever then being treatedas a normal human being? Not EVERY felon ass raped a little boy or little girl, theres plenty of white collar felons that just wanted the easy way out and that qualifies them as a P.O.S.? Whats wrong with America is that only CERTAIN persons are offered second chances, not everyone goes thru life squeeky clean but some learn right from wrong after being shown the difference

excusing rampant voter fraud by pointing out the imaginary bad behavior of others....
