this is a smart SOB who's done well at every stop. He did a good job for slick Willie while he was in the white house. Also, little know fact but his brother is a an agent in Hollywood and the character Ari Gold on Entourage is based on him.

May not be a more partisan guy in DC - this doesnt bode well for the whole "work together cross party lines" bs.

Have to agree here, this is kicking the GOP when they are down.

You guys are wrong about this guy. Remember that Clinton dealt with a Republican congress his whole presidency and this guy held major positions in his adminstration. If you mean partisan during elections then you are correct he a street fighter of the highest order. But he is smart, organized and will help Obama. We will disagree on this one even though I respect both of your opinions.

I agree he's qualified and will do fine in that role. I just think, based on this reputation, his selection isn't sending an olive branch to the Republican party. (Not that President Obama cares to at this point)

I agree. Emanuel is the furthest thing from 'reaching out.'

Sounds like W in 2000 saying the same sort of things about bi-partisan crap.

This is politics.

W fucked your party beyond belief.

This dude is to the point and tough. The senate will need some arm twisting both Dem's and Reb's. No job for a wimp. I do remember him being very helpful to Clinton. And able to compromise and get results. Obama can give some Reb's some other postions. They may not accept. Fools if they don't.

I would agree on that--but think it would be naive to think either party would not be partisan when they got the nuts (huge majority in congress and pres)

IMO
the cons
he is extremely partisan and a hometown Chicago boy--
the pros
He is very experienced and I think it sends statement that he will be pro Isreal--which I like.

I think the pros trump the cons on this selection.

OBAMA IS STILL CONNECTED TO TERRORISM!

"Emanuel was born in Chicago, Illinois. His father, the Jerusalem-born Benjamin M. Emanuel, is a pediatrician and was a member of the Irgun, a militant Zionist group active during the British Mandate of Palestine."
