I know there are higher profile gigs out there, but does anyone have any insight into the Miami Oh job?

I ask because I am hearing that Michigan DC Scott Shaffer might be a candidate.

I know we have many MAC followers here.....and I am also hopeful a UM insider might chirp in on the Shaffer rumors.

Thanks, and I will hang up and listen. :toast:

Last I read about it there were sooooo many names being tossed around that I really have no idea. I do know that there has been talk at both Miami and Michigan State about three Michigan State assts. Narduzzi ,Staten and Treadwell who all have been speculated to have interest. All 3 have stong ties to Miami as well.

The list I saw was a very long one so its difficult to speculate. I know that they want to fill the position by the end of Dec. so we will know soon enough.

Schaffer had best find a new gig somewhere because his time in A2 is limited. The only stock that has fallen quicker among Michigan DC's is Ron English...that poor sucker is still trying to figure out what happened.

Ron English and Scott Shafer both fell victim to horrible LB and Safety recruiting by UM over the last 6 years.

Shafer was also brought in AFTER the entire defensive staff was hired. He is a very good football mind and will be successful if he moves on or gets some control of who his assistants are.

I had not heard him mentioned for the Miami job but I did hear last summer that no one expected him to be around long in A2 as he is viewed as a hot head coach candidate. Obviously his resume has been tarnished a bit this season, but I'll bet he could talk his way through that if he got an interview.

You got that right. Any program that starts Morgan Trent for 4 years must be experiencing recruiting issues.

Actually, Morgan Trent was the least of their problems. The biggest holes in that defense were/are Steve Brown, Charles Stewart, Brandent Englemon, et al.

The good news for UM is that they have some serious speed at DB coming in next year and have some promising young LB's from last year's class.

Morgan might have not been the biggest problem, after all he wasn't even recruited as a DB, but he sure as hell wasn't the least of their problems either. I mean QB's were still staring for number 14 when Donavon Warren was fresh out of high school on the other side of the field! While you are mentioning poor safety play, don't leave Brandon Harrison out of the mix...
