Houston
Houston's not exactly an easy selling point to a fan base

Houston is considered the East version of Hawaii so Notre Dame had to make a call.
Win in real Hawaii or lose in East Hawaii.
Except it is snowing in Houston tonight and I don't think real Hawaii sees snow.

Either way I think Rice lays it on WMU.

And the city of Houston would have flocked out to see ND play Rice. Would have been a near sellout or maybe even a sellout.
Now the Texas Bowl will have 15,000 max.

The game is being played in Reliant Stadium.

It has a retractable roof....however, the damage from Hurricane Ike has forced it to remain open during Texans games this season.

I would imagine it will be played as an "outdoor" game.

Love Rice playing in Houston, though.

Bet the NFL Network just loves having this one on their airwaves :142smilie

Will be outdoor.

Over 55,000 seats were sold before teams announced.

Houston is awful but apparently ND has no problem playing a game next year in San Antonio....yeah.....

It may be a dump but you are being less than candid - they were absolutely ducking Rice

Less than candid? Am I withholding something? I don't pretend to have any inside sources to the football team, so I only know what's reported. ESPN > NFL network, #1 LB recruit and #1 2010 LB recruit in Hawaii, team voted for Hawaii. And I've also seen that they match up better against undersized teams.

But, I've been here long enough to know that no amount of facts are going to move you off of an opinion, so if you think ND's avoiding Rice, then continue to think that they're avoiding the big, bad Owls

I dont give a Hoot!!! :mj07:

Ok, lame joke.

BBC....you'll torch me for this......but given the fact that the team voted for Hawaii......perhaps they're ducking their own fans.

In reading various ND blogs and such, many in the fanbase seem a bit miffed they chose a bowl so far away that is not easy to travel to. Also, all their other bowl opportunities would have allowed the band to travel, but I guess the band can not go to this game.....not to mention Xmas Eve night, which led to the funniest blog comment section back and forth on BGS about how appropriate it is to watch football on such a holy day.

....so, perhaps the players are ducking their own fan base.......snowball retribution, perhaps?

There's a lot not to like about them picking the earlier bowl based on the players comments that they are more concerned about getting their Holiday started and how nice it would be to break the bowl loss streak. They also only have 4 practices after finals. I think they're going to get routed. But it's not because they're avoiding anybody.

But, I love having them on Xmas eve, though - that's in-law night. Gonna have a belly full of fish and cab watching the Irish. Couldn't ask for a better holiday.

. . . and as the AD pointed out, no one's ever complained about them playing on New Year's Day - another holy day of obligation.

So, while the Irish weren't able to see how their program matches up agains the Owls, Weis was able to secure their best Defensive recruit since the Holtz years (and that's the early Holtz years)

Weis got a kid who's a Morman from Hawa'ii who's campus visit was one of the coldest days of the year in which the Irish lost to an 8 loss team, were boo'ed and which the student section threw snowballs at the team to become Irish.

So, the schematic advantage wasn't what was promised - his recruiting has been sensational.

Go Irish!
