Thoughts on Penn St./SC game?

Hey all,

Just wondering what people are going with on this game. I originally loved SC - the points, and will still probably lay the number, but I have seen a lot of people on PSU (on other forums as well). Is the thinking that Penn State's defense will keep it low scoring and keep them in the game?

I admit SC's offense isn't as good as years past, but I think Penn State may have problems containing SC's athletes (McKnight, Gable, etc.). I also think PSU may struggle to score against that defense.

I've seen a lot of people on the under too. I could see it being a low scoring game, which would favor the Lions.

Thoughts?

I like Penn St in this one... Penn St has a good enough offense to stay in this one.... Plus SC's offense isnt really a power house this year... They just get the job done... Someone on tv said they have a good offense it just isnt sexy like years past

totally agree, i watched them "getting the job done" many times....

taking + points on penn st and the under...

This is not the USC teams of past few years... they are not the offensive star studded jugernaut.
This game will be a serious challenge for USC.
Everyone touting USC and their "wonderful pac ten defense," not much hoorah for PennSt at all.



Penn is balanced and I will take Joe Pa in the Rose Bowl ...my biggest bowl play this season..

PSU and the under. Both teams are in the top 10 in the 4 major defensive catagories so I like the under more. Hopefully PSU's defense can get a score or two and give PSU the win.

I know this is going to sound dumb, and I'm not being a smartass, but I always get the sense that not many people watch SC games. Either that, or they kind of discount SC because the Pac-10 doesn't get much credit. Like I said, I'm not being a smartass, but it seems like the consensus is that people don't have much respect for SC, or just flat-out don't like them.

But you guys are right, this isn't the same offense as in years past. The defense may be better, but the offense is worse.

I think part of my bias is that I remember how bad Penn State looked against Ohio State. I remember when I watched that game actually saying to myself, "SC would destroy these guys if they ever played them."

Then again, I'm sure there were a lot of people saying a Pop Warner team would destroy SC after that Oregon State game. :mj07:

Good point - think that might apply to some posters around here - hoping/wishing and betting at the same time. Defense wins championships. Which defense is better? I'd say that SC's is better, and will be the difference in the game - I think I'd have to go with the under . . . but that ml is too juicy to pass up. Maybe a sheckle or two

PSU had 281 total yds and 160 rushing. OSU had 287 yds and 61 rushing. They had a good rushing effort but then again, PSU averages 40 pts and 450 yds a game. Really liking the under.

I like SC - the points too. But I didn't play it. I went with the under instead. This could very well end up being a game that two quarters in I'm kicking myself in the ass for not going with my gut. We'll see...

For my sake I hope you were right........... most people I see are on Penn State and the points and people all playing the under.......

I read a stat earlier that the Rose bowl has only been under 42 once in the last 10 years......

I know it is always two different teams but think that the offense will be the show case like many of the last rose bowls.............

Plus like both offenses better then most seem to want to give credit to about ready for kick off so we will see
