Captain - how was this particular cruise itself? My wife and I had been considering taking this cruise, and was wondering how nice the ship was, how the itinerary was, etc....
This was my first cruise, so I really don't have anything to compare it to as far as being better or worse than other cruise lines, so I will just give you my thoughts on various things and if you have additional questions, fire away.
The food was good, not great, but trying to cook for that big of a group of people sitting down pretty much all at once I'm sure isn't easy. I always found something on the menu that I liked and never once had a meal that I thought just sucked. The service at the table was fantastic. About 98% of the staff are not Americans. They were all about keeping you happy and none of us were disappointed w/ the way we were treated.
The boat itself was very nice and clean. Unless you have an interior room or are down on the first 3 levels (I think thats mostly staff anyway), every room has a balcony. Most other boats we saw while out to sea didn't have this. The casino was good, not very big, but they seemed to do a pretty good business in the evenings. We went to a show pretty much every night and they were OK. They had a comedian one night that was very funny who was PG rated, so even the kids got a good laugh. The last night they a had show with the best group of people from the boat who had done the Kareoke(sp?) contests, and they were very good.
One part that I didn't really like is the way they price the pictures they take, and they take a bunch. They make you buy the 8X10 first before they let you buy any other size. So to get two 5X7's, you had to spend $22 first for each picture. I bought 4 pix one night and wanted to burn those pix on a CD. They charged $9.99 to burn a pic onto a CD. I asked them beings I just spent $88 on these pix, could they burn all 4 onto one CD for one price. "NO WAY" He wanted another $40 to burn 4 pix on one CD. I pretty much told him to F Off. I heard numerous other people complaining about their picture polices too.
We only did one day trip through the cruise line and that was an air boat ride in Belize. It was pretty cool and would reccomend it if you like seeing exotic birds and crocodiles at very close range. We went through a private outfit and did the "Stingray City" tour with them in the Cayman Islands. They were awesome. We talked to some people who did a stingray trip throught the cruies line, and they said it sucked. These guys got right in the water and brought the stingrays right over to you. Also got to do some snorkeling and had lunch at Rum Point all for about $65/person. (Kids are cheaper) In Cozumel and Roatan (Honduras) we pretty much just winged and went to some private beaches and hung out there. Roatan is absolutely beautiful and would definetely consider going back there for an extended stay. We took a cab to the west side of the island and hung out at a resort over there. (Mayan Princess) Food was great and the resort and water were top notch.
Overall, it was a good trip and I would reccomend it. They were always doing some type of activity to keep people interested. Trivia type stuff and Jamaican bands around the pool, and plenty of stuff for kids to do.
If you have any other questions, let me know.
