has anyone been on a Carnival cruise lately? My wife and I are going from Galveston to Cozumel on the Ecstacy next Thursday - Monday for our 10th anniversary. My question is can I bring my laptop and do they have wireless internet so we can keep up with what is going on at home with our 3 year old who is staying with Grandma and Grandpa.

I just got back from one on Sunday. I was on the Legend out of Tampa. Went to Cayman, Cozumel, Belize, and Honduras. I used the computers they had (at $.75/minute) for a short time to print off boarding passes. They were about 5 times slower than dial up. I didn't see anybody on our boat w/ a laptop while were there, but I'm sure they can accomidate you, but I would suggest finding out the costs first.

FWIW, we were told that the one you are going on was the higheset rated one for customer satisfaction out of all the Carnival Cruises. (Legend was second highest)

I went on the Ecstasy back in 1991 when it was a new ship. It's older and outdated now, they used it to house the hurricane katrina victims.

Went on the Legend about 2 years ago. Nice ship, but very big and easy to get seasick on.

Have fun on your cruise and don't book any excursions through Carnival. You can get them cheaper once you port.

Captain - how was this particular cruise itself? My wife and I had been considering taking this cruise, and was wondering how nice the ship was, how the itinerary was, etc....

This was my first cruise, so I really don't have anything to compare it to as far as being better or worse than other cruise lines, so I will just give you my thoughts on various things and if you have additional questions, fire away.

The food was good, not great, but trying to cook for that big of a group of people sitting down pretty much all at once I'm sure isn't easy. I always found something on the menu that I liked and never once had a meal that I thought just sucked. The service at the table was fantastic. About 98% of the staff are not Americans. They were all about keeping you happy and none of us were disappointed w/ the way we were treated.

The boat itself was very nice and clean. Unless you have an interior room or are down on the first 3 levels (I think thats mostly staff anyway), every room has a balcony. Most other boats we saw while out to sea didn't have this. The casino was good, not very big, but they seemed to do a pretty good business in the evenings. We went to a show pretty much every night and they were OK. They had a comedian one night that was very funny who was PG rated, so even the kids got a good laugh. The last night they a had show with the best group of people from the boat who had done the Kareoke(sp?) contests, and they were very good.

One part that I didn't really like is the way they price the pictures they take, and they take a bunch. They make you buy the 8X10 first before they let you buy any other size. So to get two 5X7's, you had to spend $22 first for each picture. I bought 4 pix one night and wanted to burn those pix on a CD. They charged $9.99 to burn a pic onto a CD. I asked them beings I just spent $88 on these pix, could they burn all 4 onto one CD for one price. "NO WAY" He wanted another $40 to burn 4 pix on one CD. I pretty much told him to F Off. I heard numerous other people complaining about their picture polices too.

We only did one day trip through the cruise line and that was an air boat ride in Belize. It was pretty cool and would reccomend it if you like seeing exotic birds and crocodiles at very close range. We went through a private outfit and did the "Stingray City" tour with them in the Cayman Islands. They were awesome. We talked to some people who did a stingray trip throught the cruies line, and they said it sucked. These guys got right in the water and brought the stingrays right over to you. Also got to do some snorkeling and had lunch at Rum Point all for about $65/person. (Kids are cheaper) In Cozumel and Roatan (Honduras) we pretty much just winged and went to some private beaches and hung out there. Roatan is absolutely beautiful and would definetely consider going back there for an extended stay. We took a cab to the west side of the island and hung out at a resort over there. (Mayan Princess) Food was great and the resort and water were top notch.

Overall, it was a good trip and I would reccomend it. They were always doing some type of activity to keep people interested. Trivia type stuff and Jamaican bands around the pool, and plenty of stuff for kids to do.

If you have any other questions, let me know.

Loved that part. They took so many pictures. They charged way too much for them though so another couple we were hanging out with decided to steal them and nobody noticed. We started to steal them too and nobody noticed. Security was a joke and the desk where you paid for them was way over on the other side. Better than paying $25 for an 8x10 that they will just throw away anyway.

Oh, and I don't want to hear any bs morality crap about this because the pics should be part of the fee they charge for the cruise and they cut our time from 8 hrs to 4 hrs on one island (St. Thomas) because the cruise ship took off late and didn't give us didley to compensate.

My wife won a Texas Hold 'Em tournament once on a cruise. $250.00 I don't have the patience to play that damn game!

I won 3k on my honeymoon cruise playing craps. Got in about 3AM and placed 30 $100 bills on my wife while she was sleeping. Gave her a nudge, she wakes a little bit and replies with, "Not again?"
I said "No, not hoochie, look! She sees all the cash and was pleased. We go and piss 2K away in Nassau the next day. I bought a suit that was killer nice. It's still in my closet. Wore it once in 17 years. Uh......I've gained a little weight. She bought Gucci crap, Louis Vuitton(whatever it's called). It was a lot of fun.

I have never won 3K at the casinos, the most I ever won was blackjack one night 1500 in about an hour betting 25-100 per hand, talk about fun when you are on a roll:00hour I think I am going to brush up this week on blackjack, playing Texas Holdem is like riding a bicycle

She is going to lounge by the pool and I am going to gamble and watch football Sunday:00hour

I just got back from a cruise last Friday. Carnival Paradise (Catalina/Ensinada, MX). Had a blast. The cost of WiFi was pretty steep. I don't remember the exact amount but I had my laptop and I remember looking at the price and thinking "F'k that".
Everything that the others have said is spot on. My only advice would be, DO NOT buy anything in port that can be in the least bit construed as a weapon (you'd be surprised). They'll take it from you and you won't get it back. A guy in front of me bought a set of spurs for his cowboy boots and almost cried when they took em.
Have fun.
