Play clock was at zero for crucial Ravens first down

Another game, another officiating error in the NFL. On a key 3rd and 2 with 2:52 remaining in today's divisional playoff game between the Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans, the play clock clearly expired well before Joe Flacco received the snap, but no delay of game call came from the officials.

The Ravens converted the first down on a long pass to Todd Heap, and ended up kicking the game winning field goal later in the drive.

It's not uncommon for officials to miss the play clock hitting zero, but when they do the ball is snapped nearly immediately afterwards. On this play, the ball was snapped 1.35 seconds after the play clock expired (yes, I timed it). That might sound trivial, but it's really, really not. It's a long time. Watch the replay, it's preposterous how long the back judge had to make the call.

the officials suck..they are too old and stupid to officiate games..they should be fulltime ref's with no other jobs..it's not like the league can't afford it..

ABSO-FRUCKING- LUTULY time to change this but not sure enough stink has been made.

Seventeen week season plus what 4-5 weeks pre-season. Then the play-offs which I think could use some expansion, (one more week would have put all of the 9-7 teams in??)

This in addition to a month of intensive rules review and physical conditioning would equal a 28-30 week work year, and damn sure the league could afford it by pulling a dollar from every ticket and every apparell sale

the thing to remember is you will be on the right and wrong sign of calls equally in the long run...i know everyone seems to think they are always on the bad end of it...but really this does go both ways...i do agree it is frustrating when calls get messed up - unfortunately this is just a part of betting on sports - basically have to accept it - being an official is one job i'd never want - it's impossible to make every call right...don't let the refs get you down though - just accept that there will be calls that help you, will be calls that hurt you - but those will even out...

i also agree that officials should do this as a fulltime job...that might help to make things better, but it's harder than people think to see everything on the field - we see everything on TV and all the repalys and such - when down on the field and everything is in real time it's so much harder and have to make a call so quickly - so i do understand how officials can make mistakes...they are only human...

when the clock hits 0 you still have 1 more second that the referee counts
.................................................................

have to call bs on that

I have been watching that play clock too many years. I have never seen it not flagged when it hit 0 in play.

So today in the Pitt game I am watching and low and behold they allowed the play clock to hit 0 without calling the delay.\\

They truly try to cover their tracks. Its may be one of them grassy knoll thingees.
