Its a tough rule. You can blatantly take away a 50+ yd TD and only get 15 yds in college. Then again, you can have a questionable call in NFL and go for 50 yards.

If you are referring to Pitt in the end zone, that would have been a TD if the guy didn't grab. It wasn't much, but enough.

That said, Pitt O-Line holds blatantly and often and almost never called. I think they need to review what is and what is not holding b/c everyone just wraps up now to block and they don't call it.

agree holding calls are definitely a problem ... could be called every play ...

"the bunker"
maybe make it 20 if the pass is longer than 20?...

but then again,it starts getting a little convoluted ,doesn`t it...

i don`t like that end zone rule, but, not sure how to change it to make it more "equitable"...

How about making it a "Half the distance penalty" - half the distance between the line of scrimmage and where the penalty occured.... you can't always assume that the receiver will catch the ball every time.

Then it would be a 25 yard penalty if it occured 50 yards downfield?

Make it a minimum yardage of 15 - but anytime more than 30 yards downfield, it is half the distance?

I hate that it is an automatic first down (same with defensive holding). Let the yardage of the penalty decide if it is a 1st down or not.

Its gotten to where the rules are broken on every single down and its up to the ref to say if they've been broken excessively or not.

I like that def holding is a first down, but like you say...its kind of ridiculous if its 3rd and 40 and the guy does what he does on every play but this time the ref calls it and its an easy 1st down...

It works ok in college. 50-yard penalties sometimes are the only hope for inept passing teams, and I agree that it needs to be looked into.
