It will be interesting to see where this lovefest with Obama goes.....

President Bush had one of the highest approval ratings of any president in the weeks following 9/11 - 90+%.......

And we know where public opinion is regarding him now....

Obama has a very high approval rating now... and he comes into a great situation, in that the economy etc can't do much more than improve - I don't think it can get much worse.

I wonder what Obama's public perception will be in 4 years, in 8 years?

Presidents, very unfairly so IHMO, get judged based on economic conditions in the country during their presidency. And we all know that the economy tends to be very cyclical.

It is a great position for ANYONE to come into the presidency right now - low expectations, nowhere to go but up.

He's already put a great gameplan out there right now telling everyone to not get their hopes up, that the economy might not improve for the next year or so. If it doesn't then he was right, if it does then he looks like a genius.

That is so true... while it is much more difficult, work wise, to take the presidency when things are going poorly, it is so much easier to look like a "good" president when things can only go upwards.....

All in all, I think it is much better to come into the job when things are down, than when things are going well for the country - as all you can do is be blamed when things go bad (which they always do at some point). Unfortunately, Pres Bush will be blamed for the economic crisis and not remembered for what he did in the 9/11 aftermath.

I not the biggest Bush fan (well actually I am, but that's a different topic), but I do think he has gotten a bad shake - you can't put all the economy issues just on his back...

Oh well - let's wish Obama well, and hopefully things will improve sooner rather than later...

I am not a Bush fan. With that being said I think that he should absolutely not be blamed for the economic situation we are in right now. But I think regardless of the economic downturn we are in that he would be considered a failure as a president. The way he handled the Iraq invasion stinks of a president just trying to leave a legacy behind. Currently, the purchasing of over a half million dollars worth of White House china once again shows Bush trying to leave his mark in history. Go back to running a baseball organization into the ground.
