I bought my wife an ipod touch and she had to get it replaced because the power button was loose. Before I returned it I backed up the ipod. When I loaded the new one, her contacts and calendar were updated, but the applications she bought (tetris and crosswords) were not loaded. When I click on the application tab on my itunes they are not there, but they show up in my billing history.

I can't find them anywhere in my itunes and I do not want to pay to download them again....

any suggestions as to how I can re-download them?

First in your hearts.
I have an iPhone, which should be the same as far as the Apps are concerned.

This is one of the things Apple does that I don't understand. You can't manage your Apps except through iTunes and only when the device is connected to the machine. That sucks. I've considered jailbreaking the thing for that reason.

Anyway, I don't think this will be a problem. Just go and act like you are buying it again. After you click to buy --but before you have to tell it how to pay-- you get the option of a free download. (Try disabling one-click purchasing first.)

Here's Apple's explanation:
