:SIB o.k., I know I'm not the sharpest nail in the box.....

I have a wall that measures 117 inches across..

I want to hang 4 pictures which are 14 inches across.

What are my four centerpoints...

A BIG thanks!! :( :(

19.2", 45.4", 71.6", 97.8" ??

this has the first pic's edge 12.2" from the end of wall, then a 14" pic, then 12.2" between next pic, and so on
does my explanation make any sense?

I disagree with this spacing because I would space the pictures so that the distance from each wall to the first picture edge would be equal to half of the distance between each picture.

My calculations to the center of each 14" wide picture:

14 5/8"
43 7/8"
73 1/8"
103 3/8"

Math like this have never been my strong point, but I drew a picture, and that's what I came up with, too.

----------------------------------
# # # #
----------------------------------

I took the total length (117)
Subtracted the total length of pictures (4x14=56)
117-56=61
Divide the remaining 61 inches by the five "spaces" you have (61/5=12.2)

That shows you where the pictures will be, so the center points of 19.2", 45.4", 71.6", 97.8" are correct!

To find the even spacing between your 4 pictures, you divide by 5  .

Trust me, i work with a tape measure EVERDAY.

From the edge of the wall, the center of your first picture should be 23 & 3/8 and each picture there after should also be 23 & 3/8 from the center of the last picture.

This will give you even distance from the wall on your first and last picture.

Agreed but from an interior decorator point of view, you would not want the space between the wall and the first picture to be equal to the space between each picture. That space should be half of that distance.
