An FYI, I don't have a problem with them and I think it's a personal choice.

Saying that, how can all of these media people and congress be jumping on all of these baseball players and then when someone like Mickey Rourke comes up for an Oscar they act like it's a great story that he's made a big comeback. He put on 30 freaking pounds and was tight skinned.
He's 56 years old and had a fast life, you don't do that in 4 or 5 months without steroids.

Again, I could give a chit what he does but if you're going to jump on some don't suck the wanker of others when they're all doing the same thing.

because people are idiots.. They complain about baseball players but bitch when they pay a hundred dollars a ticket and don't see any home runs. There are only a select few people anywhere that have any idea what they are talking about in the matter in the first place. They just watch Sportscenter and echo their favorite radio personalities and such. Why isn't anyone bitching about Hank Aaron's admitted drug use? Or the fact that there are more football players addicted to painkillers than there are missing socks in this world. So who knows what people will bitch about but I can assure you that it will be something meaningless as usual.

Besides, Mickey Rourke will go right back to being a bum, it's what he is.

Hope this helps,
FDC

I am not happy about the steroids use but can you really keep Barry Bonds and ARod out the Hall when someone like Gaylord Perry is in?
As for Mickey Rourke, how can you respect a guy who carried around a dog like a woman? I mean come on!

Anyone who takes steroids is a cheater. The problem is that we don't know who has taken them and who hasn't so overall we don't know who all the cheaters are.

It doesn't matter if it wasn't banned by a sport at a certain time. Its ILLEGAL in the USA. That means that someone is committing a crime to significantly improve over someone who chooses to obey the law.

The clean player shouldn't have to break the law to compete against the dirty player. You have to wonder how many college, maybe even high school players' careers were affected by others using steroids.

How many people are millionaires while others work for a regular salary b/c they were cheated by scum like A-Fraud and Bonds. How many were cheated out of championships b/c they were clean? Do they deserve the hall? No. But so many others don't as well.

Sorry, just hate it when so many people don't care about steroids. Its cheating, plain and simple.

TDJ, I think you might have misunderstood what I was saying. When I say I don't care if someone does them it's because I really just don't care, baseball doesn't mean anything to me. It doesn't get me worked up that someone cheated because I never cared about the sport to begin with.

What I'm saying is that it bugs me that "news" people will jump on baseball players for doing it but think Rourke is something special for his role that he couldn't even have done if he wouldn't have taken roids. And not even news people, I'm sure there are guys on here that have bitched about the players cheating doing steroids but then went to see Rourke's movie and thought wow what a great movie and he was awesome in it. Would he have been so awesome if he was 30lbs lighter, loose skinned and looked his age? No he wouldn't but because he cheated people think he was awesome in the role.

layin`...rourke was actually a professional boxer(sort of..click on the biography link inside the link i provided)....all cans on a short resume`...he was also an amateur..

http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=29155&cat=boxer

don`t have a clue about the `roids thing....i guess it`s possible that he used....he did have times in his life in which he muscled up considerably.....but i`d guess the guy must know how to train if he boxed at even an organized amateur level........

that doesn`t explain the puppet face,though....the guy`s a real piece of work....

btw...check out the movie "bullet"...i caught it on cable pretty much by accident...thought it was actually pretty damned good(ted levine from "silence of the lambs" was great in this)......not for the kids,though...

GW, yeah I know he boxed and I don't know that he did roids for sure but he said he put on 30lbs for the movie of straight muscle and only had (i think) 4 months to do it. At his age there is no way he could do that without help. I believe the number you can put on of just muscle(not water or fat or anything else included) is 1.5 to 2 lbs a month. Yeah in 1 year you could put on 24lbs of straight muscle which is a ton but not 30 in 4 months.

Edit: I guess a lot of what he put on could be water which if you take creatine and some other things you could come close I guess. I've put on 20lbs in 3 months with legal stuff but I'm a lot younger than him. I just can't see him doing the hard work it takes to do it naturally. But you know what, I could be wrong.

layinwood....ok I do see what you are saying. At the same time I think there is a huge difference.

Maybe I'll just say one is WAY more wrong than the other.

If marijuana or LSD or some other illegal substance helped the Beatles or other groups write songs that people like to listen to....is that really the same thing as an athlete taking a performance enhancement drug?

I guess, yes and no. While sports is indeed entertainment, the main part of the entertainment is fair competition. On the other hand, music and movies, etc is about making something people like and directly entertaining through expression.

There is of course indirect competition with who gets what part and who gets what award, but to me, the main goal is to produce something worth watching or listening to.

I'm not condoning it, just think its apples and oranges.

I don't care that Milli Vanilli lip-synch'd....I liked their music. I don't care if Stallone used steroids to make Rocky 4 or that the Beatles used LSD to make Yellow Submarine.

I have little interest in baseball or track/field, but I do think its a huge deal that steroids are involved b/c I see that as direct cheating in a game.
