The second I pulled the trigger, he was coming down out of that tree,? Jarman said. ?Usually around here when you shoot a buck, and as you get closer to it, it has ground shrinkage. As we kept getting closer to the cat and looking him over, he just was bigger and bigger. I couldn't get my hand around his tail.?

interesting and pretty well written article. I don't ever care to go mountain lion hunting personally, but to each his own.

Scott, how would you suggest this guy kill the mountain lion differently than he did?

1. You don't pay for a private hunt on land where they raise the mountain lions to kill. If you get a hunting guide, you get them in country where mountain lions live naturally.

2. You dont use AVs to find tracks and then let dogs loose. You walk like our ancestors did. If you can't walk very good , then the mountain lion lives another day.

3. You dont use dogs period. pussy bastids

4. You wait until the mountain lion sees you and charges , then you shoot it because its your life or his.

that about sums it up for me.

I have no problem with shooting this lion.

The lion had a chance to take the guys head off.

not to mention they almost shot each other a few times.

Each dog had its own separate GPS unit on its collar, allowing Russ to track the dogs while they tracked the cat. Then, while the dogs were out, Russ and Jarman drove around to the opposite side of the mountain, near where the dogs had posted. At about 2 p.m., and over 10 miles from the original track sighting, they got within roughly 1,000 yards of the dogs, and they hiked on foot the rest of the way.

that takes some hunting skills there

well, you are really talking out of your :moon: now. The guy was not hunting on a place where they raise mountain lions to kill. :mj07: That place doesn't exist. This was in Canada in British Columbia in a huge expanse of land. That's the main reason they didn't even see a track for the first 4 days. Hunting with dogs is how you hunt mountain lions. They are so elusive that you otherwise do not see them. Mountain lions of course have a range in British Columbia, and if I'm not mistaken I think they are as far north as Alaska.

The lion video you brought up in which you have no problem with them shooting you should take a look again. Before the first shot, look closely and you can tell the lion is against a fence. This is a 'killing pen' the lion is in. This is high fence killing, and it is an abomination yet you have no problem with it? I have huge problems with any kind of high fence operation. This lion more than likely was culled out of a captive population and placed in a 5-10 acre killing pen.
