In danger of sounding like someone who is trying to bash Obama, why isn't anyone up in arms for Obama ending his speeches with, "God Bless the United States of America"?

Didn't everyone have a real problem with Bush doing that?

I'm sure people are going to say that Bush "crammed" religion down our throats, but I'm not sure there is much difference.

Well for one thing Bush claims to have talked with God. But I don't remember Bush being taken to task for saying God bless America. Maybe he was and I just don't remember it in the face of his sins.

Your right... I always thought that the President should say something like this : God bless America and all those that embrace peace and liberty around the world. Not every one believes in God... I do.. If you believe in God, why would anyone ask, that God bless only America ?

I think it's okay to say "God bless America" in context of a speech to Americans about America. I don't think that it is intended to be exclusionary.

Just my take.

I hear you . Not a pc guy but.. the President is heard all around the world. If one is not American and they are listing to our Persidents voice, they are either friend or foe... That simple gester could only help in both cases.. Just me. To me it doesn't matter what God is referenced, God is inclusive.. This is something that I have thought about for yrs... Would love to see an American President extend a hand, as far as their voice travels.. What would be the analysis after that first speech that ends that way ?

Dawg, you are a reasonable guy. Can you please refer us to one post where Bush was taken to task for saying "God Bless America"?

You may not know how lazy I am, but I wasn't necessarily referring to people here. Bush was definitely chastised for saying "God Bless America" at points. Could have definitely been remnants from other items he said.

So, unfortunately, I can not refer you to a post. :(

Wasnt there a point and time where Bush also said we were going to Mars? I guess he got side tracked with the occuppation and forgot how important getting to Mars was.;)

I can't remember anyone at this site or in the media ever having a problem with Bush or any other President saying 'God Bless America'.
