It sounds like your shortcuts are bricked. Did you recently do an update? That could cause it. This is simple to fix, if that's the problem.
Right click on the iTunes icon on the desktop, then delete the icon. You will get a message asking if you are sure you know what you are doing. Click the delete shortcut button.
Go to Start/my computer
Double click on your hard drive, probably called Local Disk (c : )
Double Click Program Files folder
Double Click iTunes
Look for the iTunes icon in the folder. Right click on the icon and pull down to "send to:" A submenu will appear, and pull down to "desktop create shortcut"
Go to desktop and double click the icon.
