I've tried Columbia Crest before, not good IMO.

Sonoma Loeb can be found in the $15-20 range. Usually about $20. The reserve is much more. We have a few reserves from 2002 gathering dust in our wine rack.

You should really try Rodney Strong too, had the Merlot at Morton's and it made our meal great. Now my wife buys it at the wine store on a regular basis.

C'mon now there's a difference between criticizing an opinion and calling someone a motherfawker:0corn

I feel I've done a good job contributing to this thread and now I'm done because as I said I'm no expert.

Damn Boys...one of the 5 First Growths of Bordeaux...is that a poster or lithograph you can get? I actually have 3 bottles of the Mouton '94 and 3 of the '97 and 1 of the 2004. Got an amazing opportunity to have a sip of the '82 and a full glass of the '86 from friends that shared. Just sex in a glass.

Two good every day drinking whites that you can get in a box.

Black Box Chardonnay (3L) $22
Le Petit Frog (3L) $32

We haven't found too many reds in a box that are worth the time.

One suggestion:
Yellow + Blue Malbec (1 L) $11

For more upscale ocassions:

Put any of the above wines in a decanter before your guests arrive...

I like the $10 wines cause I usually drink a half bottle a night which sometimes turns into a bottle so to keep peace with the person in charge of the bills in the house . . .

But, if you like Dancing Bull, you'll probably like the bigger, fruitier wines. Murphy Goode has two zins (Liar's Dice and Snake Eyes - I can't distinguish between the two) that used to be $30/bottle that have dropped in price since they were bought by Kendall Jackson. They should be in most wine stores nation-wide

Also, Sterling's Coastal region Cabernet and Merlot also have that similar taste - about $15/bottle. They're Napa wines are better, but are pricier

Once I get to over $40/bottle, I can't really differentiate between it and a $30/bottle (and I'm pretty happy about that).

Happy Hunting!
