Geithner leads by example ? in coach
Posted: 06:54 PM ET

From CNN's Lesa Jansen

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says he never rides first class.

(CNN) ? As the government tries to curb corporate excess of companies receiving federal bailout money, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner appears to be leading by example.

The man who was grilled by Congress last week over the AIG bonuses took the Delta shuttle from New York to Washington on Saturday, riding in the coach section. Asked why not first class, Geithner said he always rides coach, "never first class".

A Gun Ban Gets Shot Down
By Michael Isikoff | NEWSWEEK
Published Mar 28, 2009

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is now the second member of President Obama's cabinet to get shot down by the White House over the politically sensitive issue of assault weapons. After meeting with Mexican President Felipe Calder?n, Clinton said that reinstating the U.S. ban on assault weapons?which was passed in 1994 and expired in 2004?is one step this country could take to curb the flow of guns to Mexico's drug cartels. "These military-style weapons don't belong on anybody's street," Clinton told NBC. Within hours, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters that he was unaware of "any plans" to push for such a ban?even though Obama had backed one during last year's campaign.

Attorney General Eric Holder had a similar experience a few weeks earlier. After he endorsed a ban at a Feb. 25 press conference, Justice officials were instructed by White House aides to drop the issue, according to administration and congressional aides who asked not to be named due to political sensitivities. What's behind the shift? A budding relationship between the gun lobby and Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill. After Holder mentioned the ban, the National Rifle Association sent out action alerts to its members and bombarded Hill offices with calls. Sixty-five House Dems dashed off a letter to Holder opposing such a ban, while Speaker Nancy Pelosi?echoing the NRA's mantra on all gun-control issues?said she backed "enforcing the laws we have now."

NRA executive vice president Wayne LaPierre told NEWSWEEK that Hill Democrats have "learned their lesson" from 1994, when they enacted the ban and subsequently lost control of Congress. They've also learned that cozying up to the NRA can pay big dividends. Last year Democrats received 20 percent of the nearly $1.2 million that the NRA pumped into congressional campaign coffers?more than twice what it gave to Dems just six years earlier. The way things are going, this could be more than a shotgun wedding

I Got facts. Just a few

Obama has spent more money in 60 days than our first 43 presidents combined.
He is a socialist. I refuse to give my hard earned $ to people who refuse to do nothing.....BUT this will make us all equal.
Hired Napalitano (AZ Gov) for US Secretary for Homeland Security....WHAT A FUKING JOKE....that biatch took our propositions that we passed here in AZ on illegal immigration and put them bk in court because she did not agree with them. The courts reversed many of them. Now her and "D" mayor Gordon are saying we need to protect our border....You dumb azzes....you just now figured that out. We knew it yrs ago and voted on it (84% said illegals get the fuk out) but you vetoed it. Now she is after Sheriff Joe who goes after illegals but out the other side of her mouth says we need help
to protect our borders LMAO.
Now wants to dectate GM to go in w/Chrysler/Fiat WOW Makes you wonder where all this$$ came from to become president...FIAT??? OMG
FOR a guy who talks so much about wanting a new era of re sponsibility, President Obama spends an awful lot of time blaming Republicans for all the wild and reckless spending he crammed into his own budget.

After running a campaign against the $1 trillion deficit he "inherited" from President Bush and the Republicans, Obama quickly matched it. During his first 50 days in office, he and his Democratic-controlled Congress spent $1 billion an hour.

Under Obama's proposed budget, the overall national debt doubles in five years and triples in 10.

Not exactly "moving from an era of borrow and spend to one where we save and invest," as he promised.

How does Mr. Responsibility explain the disconnect between this reality and his absurd claims? By insisting that Republicans were worse.

"To a bunch of the critics out there, I've already said, show me your budget!" he told a gathering of wealthy Democratic donors this week. "I'm happy to have that debate."

Or, another time: "I suspect that some of those Republican critics have a short memory, because as I recall I'm inheriting a $1.3 trillion deficit, annual deficit, from them."

In other words, Obama cannot defend his decision to double down on deficit spending. So, he simply trashes Republicans.

As if voters right now are looking for somebody just not as bad as the GOP. As if his campaign slogan wasn't "Change You Can Believe In," but rather "Vote for Me. I'm Not as Bad as Republicans."

Anyway, Republicans tried this out-of-control spending derby -- and just look where that got them. In a few short years, they lost control of every single lever of power exactly because of this kind of behavior.

Yet in even less time, Obama has put away his promises of Hope and Change and tossed aside the idealism of his campaign about remaking politics in Washington.

Surveying the political landscape here today, Obama is thinking of that adage cherished by cutthroats everywhere.

If you and a buddy are walking through the woods and encounter a hungry, angry bear, you don't have to outrun the bear. You simply have to outrun your buddy.
HOPE= What you have left when you don't have a plan! ! ! ! !
