I just had a nice talk with Raymond on the phone this morning and he is, like many of us are, extremely disappointed at the rate that our once great country is falling apart in front of our eyes. I can appreciate his frustration and I think that he is just using this forum to vent.
My engineering business, like Raymond's concrete business, has been hit hard by the banking fiasco and it is pretty hard to stomach for me as well. Bottom line is that buildings simply don't get designed or built without a bank being involved and when literally every bank in America refuses to loan money, everything comes to a screeching halt.

I take it all of this started in the past few months, right? Damn that OBama. Everything was great until he took office.
I have never been one to point fingers after the fact. Bottom line is that on November 1st, my firm had 84 employees and a month later we had our first layoff in the 26 years we have been in business. Twenty of my employees lost their job at that time and six more two weeks ago.
On a positive note, it seems that the lenders' purse strings might be loosening up as we have written more contracts in the past three weeks than we had since January 1st. The Wells Fargo deal announced laast week may very well be the catalyst required make some of the other larger banks to finally free up some capital.
I certainly hope so or this economy could soon have a serious impact on my retirement plans. I know that many others are in much more dire circumstances and I certainly emphasize with their situations.
