The Republican base is behaving like a guy who just got dumped by his wife.

If conservatives don't want to be seen as bitter people who cling to their guns and religion and anti-immigrant sentiments, they should stop being bitter and clinging to their guns, religion and anti-immigrant sentiments.

It's been a week now, and I still don't know what those "tea bag" protests were about. I saw signs protesting abortion, illegal immigrants, the bank bailout and that gay guy who's going to win "American Idol." But it wasn't tax day that made them crazy; it was election day. Because that's when Republicans became what they fear most: a minority.

The conservative base is absolutely apoplectic because, because ... well, nobody knows. They're mad as hell, and they're not going to take it anymore. Even though they're not quite sure what "it" is. But they know they're fed up with "it," and that "it" has got to stop.

Here are the big issues for normal people: the war, the economy, the environment, mending fences with our enemies and allies, and the rule of law.

And here's the list of Republican obsessions since President Obama took office: that his birth certificate is supposedly fake, he uses a teleprompter too much, he bowed to a Saudi guy, Europeans like him, he gives inappropriate gifts, his wife shamelessly flaunts her upper arms, and he shook hands with Hugo Chavez and slipped him the nuclear launch codes.

Do these sound like the concerns of a healthy, vibrant political party?

It's sad what's happened to the Republicans. They used to be the party of the big tent; now they're the party of the sideshow attraction, a socially awkward group of mostly white people who speak a language only they understand. Like Trekkies, but paranoid.

The GOP base is convinced that Obama is going to raise their taxes, which he just lowered. But, you say, "Bill, that's just the fringe of the Republican Party." No, it's not. The governor of Texas, Rick Perry, is not afraid to say publicly that thinking out loud about Texas seceding from the Union is appropriate considering that ... Obama wants to raise taxes 3% on 5% of the people? I'm not sure exactly what Perry's independent nation would look like, but I'm pretty sure it would be free of taxes and Planned Parenthood. And I would have to totally rethink my position on a border fence.

I know. It's not about what Obama's done. It's what he's planning. But you can't be sick and tired of something someone might do.

Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota recently said she fears that Obama will build "reeducation" camps to indoctrinate young people. But Obama hasn't made any moves toward taking anyone's guns, and with money as tight as it is, the last thing the president wants to do is run a camp where he has to shelter and feed a bunch of fat, angry white people.

Look, I get it, "real America." After an eight-year run of controlling the White House, Congress and the Supreme Court, this latest election has you feeling like a rejected husband. You've come home to find your things out on the front lawn -- or at least more things than you usually keep out on the front lawn. You're not ready to let go, but the country you love is moving on. And now you want to call it a whore and key its car.

That's what you are, the bitter divorced guy whose country has left him -- obsessing over it, haranguing it, blubbering one minute about how much you love it and vowing the next that if you cannot have it, nobody will.

But it's been almost 100 days, and your country is not coming back to you. She's found somebody new. And it's a black guy.

The healthy thing to do is to just get past it and learn to cherish the memories. You'll always have New Orleans and Abu Ghraib.

And if today's conservatives are insulted by this, because they feel they're better than the people who have the microphone in their party, then I say to them what I would say to moderate Muslims: Denounce your radicals. To paraphrase George W. Bush, either you're with them or you're embarrassed by them.

The thing that you people out of power have to remember is that the people in power are not secretly plotting against you. They don't need to. They already beat you in public.

The sad thing is, it's ultimately bad for our country that the Republican party is completely in shambles and can't get it together.

If we are going to be trapped in a two party system (which we will be, forever)... having one party this sad off, is not good.

I guess it is cyclical, because the Democrat party seemed pretty weak a while ago.

Your hatred of jews is obvious. Not sure why bigots, like yourself, flock to this forum, but I definitely wish you'd all leave.

BTW, I don't like Maher much either.

You wish your T-cell count was higher too, but that's not happening either.

I didn't say Maher wasn't funny, just that he's humorless. His bigotry gets a free ride because his tribe runs the media and government. I'll keep on pointing out where that fucks things up for the rest of us.

seriously. nothing like AIDS jokes to classen up the place. :sadwave:

I'm with you. No one should ever be allowed -- anywhere -- to criticize butt sex deviants or talk about the disease they spread. That's just hate. Let's be like Canada and sic the police on anybody who thinks different.

Police investigating Christian activist for hate crimes

Two thousand leaflets attacking gays and lesbians have put a Christian activist in western Canada under investigation by Edmonton police for hate crimes.

The flyers by Bill Whatcott of Regina refer to gay marriage as "sodomite marriage" and use graphic language to describe the alleged sex practices of homosexuals.

The handouts also used derogatory terms to describe federal Defence Minister Bill Graham.

Whatcott stuffed his pamphlets into mailboxes in the riding of Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan, and some recipients complained to police.

"The material is offensive and it's an affront on the basic tenets of our society, which is about multiculturalism, tolerance and peaceful co-existence," Const. Steve Camp, of the Edmonton police hate crimes unit, said.

The Pride Centre of Edmonton said it would take the case to the Alberta Human Rights and Citizenship Commission if no criminal charges arise from the police investigation.

Whatcott has led protests across Saskatchewan and Alberta against abortion and gays.

He says he was a gay prostitute until age 18 to pay for a drug habit, then became leader of a small group called the Christian Truth Activists.

Last month, the Saskatchewan Human Rights Tribunal fined Whatcott $17,500 for handing out similar material.

But he has refused to pay the fine, calling the tribunal a "kangaroo court."

Whatcott doesn't sidestep responsibility – he prints his name and telephone number on his material – and he says he's had at least 50 angry callers.

But he says he won't stop because he has a right to free speech.

He told opponents: "Tough, you live in a democracy."

You don't have to be a queer. Just change your behavior like Bill Whatcott did.

HATE BILL VOTE ON WEDNESDAY!

By Rev. Ted Pike
28 Apr 09

The federal hate crimes bill, HR 1913, passed out of the House Rules Committee mid-afternoon Tuesday, April 28, too late to be brought to a vote in the House. This gives lovers of freedom at least one more day to convince members of the House to consider their political futures and not vote for this pedophile-protecting legislation.

Last Thursday during the hate bill mark-up, Rep. Steve King (R, Iowa) submitted an amendment which would have forced the Judiciary Democrats to clearly state in the bill that pedophiles would not have special federal rights and protections under the class "sexual orientation." The Judiciary Democrats refused.

Here is Rep. Louie Gohmert's shocked response to their determination to welcome all forms of sexual perversion under the umbrella of HR 1913's protection:

"…we just rejected an amendment to include pedophilia from being part of this protected class.

Do you realize what that means? If a mother hears that their child has been raped, and she slaps the assailant with her purse, she is now gone after as a hate criminal because this is a protected class. There are other protected classes in here. I mean, simple exhibitionism -- I have female friends who have told me over the years that some guy flashed them and their immediate reaction was to hit them with the purse.

Well, now, he has committed a misdemeanor. She has committed a federal hate crime because the exhibitionism is protected under sexual orientation.

Now, I know my friend said that we have a definition in the law. But there is nothing in this bill that references the definitions in the Hate Crimes Statistical Act. It is not there.

We asked that it be added so we could get a specific definition. It is not there. And having reviewed cases as an appellate judge, I know that when the legislature has a chance to include a definition and refuses, then what we looked at was the plain meaning of those words.

The plain meaning of sexual orientation is anything to which someone is sexually oriented. That could include exhibitionism. It can include necrophilia. It could include urophilia, and voyeurism. You see somebody spying on you changing clothes and you hit them, they have committed a misdemeanor. You have committed a federal felony under this bill.

It is so wrong." (Congressional Record, April 23, 2009)

Rep. Gohmert, as a former judge, authoritatively describes this bill as a pedophile-protecting one.

Just as boldly, you should describe it in the same terms to your House member. Calling should begin again at 6 a.m. PDT on Wed., April 29. Call 1-877-851-6437 toll free or 1-202-225-3121 toll.

The message for your House member is: "Please don't vote for the hate bill HR 1913. Reps. King and Gohmert say it gives special protection to pedophiles and sexual perverts. Do you want to go on record supporting a pro-pedophile hate bill?"

I didn't say you shouldn't be allowed to. I just said it isn't very classy or in good form to use an illness as a way to lob an insult at someone you disagree with on a website that typically is social and friendly.

Nope it's not good form to call anyone you don't like a racist/antisemite!

But, I don't think he did so because he doesn't LIKE you.

I think he said it because you said "Bill Maher is a humorless little banana-nosed jew"

How does one become so full of hate:shrug:

Because one lacks the emotional maturity to tolerate legitimate criticism?

No point in hating the mirror, son. It can't reflect what aint in front of it.
