Whats up guys, I wanted to start this thread in order to get a few GOOD ideas of HEALTHY EATING and healthy recipes. I have tried a few times to discipline myself but after eating salmon and eggs at almost every meal it gets old fast. So what I wanted to do was get a few recipes(healthy and attempt to be healthy ones only please) maybe we can get some good ones and perhaps help a few members as well as myself shed a few of the unwanted pounds for the summer, getting late but late is better then never. Shit if this goes well enough maybe we could have the MJs recipe book soon enough with credit given to each member as the contribute a selection. Feel free to write out the recipe, include a link or just type something like : salmon and eggs and let a few members that tried it or know of it explain the steps to it. I for one love finding new recipes and bringing new flavors and taste to my dinner table, unfrtunately at this point I have nothing to offer as I am NOT eating healthy but eliminating all fried foods as well as the red meats...thx if u decide to help or post.

Jerz: I know what you are trying to get started here (recipes), but the most important thing you can do is to eliminate "food products" and add more real food. Eliminate foods with high fructose corn syrup and you'll be eating a lot better without much effort.

The timing of meals and how much we eat is just as important as what is eaten.

I have a hard time eating breakfast...usually just not hungry and coffee is all I want. But I've forced myself to eat breakfast because it jump starts our metabolism. Smaller more frequent meals will lead to quicker weight loss than infrequent eating with 1 big meal (usually dinner). Just my 2c.

:00hour AMEN!!! I've also eliminated the sugary drinks, alot of water into the daily intake. Thx for the input fellas and I'm just kicking it around, thought we may have a shot at making a pretty interesting menu or choice of menus.

here you go z........this recipe appeals to neocons and moonbats alike(ask happy hippo...she`ll school ya`)

chop a medium onion,2 stalks of celery, and 2 medium carrots...

saute in about 4 tablespoons of olive oil(i use less)..

add 2 cloves of garlic...chopped or minced

add a medium can of tomato sauce...simmer...add 4 or 5 cans of water...

while it`s simmering take a one pound bag of lentils and eyeball them for anything that doesn`t look like it belongs(shoelaces, old fillings, fingernail clippings)...rinse em in a strainer.......throw em in the pot when it starts to get very hot(almost a boil)......

i add a little garlic salt(not to much)...stir occasionally...

check every 15 or 20 minutes because you`re gonna have to add more water...don`t let it get too thick...add water a can at a time as necessary....

you don`t want it too thick...or too thin...

doesn`t sound all that good?...i think you`ll be shocked...great with a hard roll or a nice slice of french or italian bread....

full of protein...fiber...vitamins...

/see,i`m not so bad...:SIB

What is your goal? Are you trying to lose weight? Bulk up? Or just get healthy?

Losing weight and getting a little healthier would be cool all in the same attempt....starting to exercise regularly and this eating healthy thing should throw me over the edge. Just wanna give the ol' lady something to stick her chest out over, she's a happy woman but if I could get back into or knock a few years off I think it would be pleasing to her, along with my son who is 12 yrs old and doing 500 push ups a FUCKING DAY...125 in the morning before school 125 after school 125 after dinner and 125 before showering at night...love the kids drive but now its affecting my LAZY WAYS!!!!! So just one of those things that needed or needs to be done and its finally time to stop putting it off:director:

White Chicken Chili Recipe
1 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
1 medium onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
3 cups low-sodium chicken broth
2 15 oz. cans cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
1 15 oz. can navy beans, drained and rinsed
3 cups cooked, chicken breast
1 4 oz. can diced green chiles
1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
2 tsp. cumin
1 tsp. oregano
kosher salt and pepper to taste
1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese (optional)
4 sliced green onions (optional)
Heat oil over medium heat in a dutch oven or heavy saucepan. Add onion and garlic. Cook 2-3 minutes. Process one cup chicken broth and 1 can cannellini beans in a blender or food processor until smooth. Add to onion and garlic mixture. Stir in remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, then turn heat down to medium-low. Simmer 20-30 minutes.

You can use dry beans if you want but you'll need to either soak overnight or do a quick soak the day of cooking. Plus you'll need to cook beans for awhile before you add other ingredients.

One of my faves. I always use Extra virgin olive oil when cooking. Its the kind that comes from really really ugly olives. Very heart healthy though.

Think I'll try Emeril La'weasels above recipe too. Sounds veddy veddy tasty.

so what do you drink now?? -seriously

i barely tried eliminating soda from my diet, though... jus nothing as filling. i'm guessing vitamin water is better--though only soo many of those you can drink. water doesnt fill me up, subside my appetite. i know i drink entirely too much soda--as is pretty much ALL i drink, and i dont feel bad now--curious what your case was. thanks in advance

Depending on IF it is truely vitamin water..the marketed vitamin water truely isnt, but loaded with just as much sugar as that soda is......lemonade? Light on the sugar...homemade fresh lemons...summertime, mmmm, mmmmm good. Also IF u wanna go the extra....NOT TO BUMP A PRODUCT but the juicer by the old guy Jack Lalayne or whatever his name is works VERY WELL FOR FRESH JUICE AND HEALTHY DRINK MIXTURES

filtered tap water is what I drink most of the time . I don't even drink it cold now :mj07: Sometimes I have bottled water. I indulge once a week at mom's house with some delicious sweet tea. Occasionally, I will drink organic milk or juice.

you have a safeway near you?.....they sell a safeway brand "clear sparkling water beverage" in several flavors((i like orange cream and wild cherry)...it`s carbonated...that`s what you`re craving ,i`ll wager..0 sodium/o fat/o calories/0 sugars.....

and it tastes great...much better than diet soda....comes in 1 liter bottles...

give it a try...i think you`ll like it...

i think i need a beverage with carbs though--as soda pretty much is what i get by to fill me up throughout a day(prolly 8-9 a day) with maybe one or two meals and a handful of "snacks" (cookies or cupcakes)
