The Yanks got a spark from Mark Teixeira's takeout slide Tuesday night, but it cost the first baseman his starting spot tonight. Teixeira was scratched from the lineup about one hour before the scheduled first pitch because of a bruised right ankle, suffered when he broke up a double play that kept alive the Yankees' big fourth inning Tuesday.
X-rays after Tuesday's game were negative.
"It's bruised. I wanted to give it a day and we'll see where we're at tomorrow," Teixeira said through a team spokesman.
Nick Swisher was moved to first base to replace Teixeira and Johnny Damon dropped from second to third in the lineup into Teixeira's usual spot. Swisher will bat second.
