Santana will miss at least one start

Ervin Santana felt tightness in his right forearm during his last start and will be scratched from Tuesday?s start in San Francisco.

Santana is expected to be replaced by Triple-A right-hander Sean O?Sullivan, who is in town but not at AT&T Park.

Santana underwent an MRI on his right elbow Monday and was awaiting results. He said this injury is on the other side of his arm from the elbow soreness that caused him to miss the first six weeks of the season.

Manager Mike Scioscia said the team won?t need Santana to pitch again until June 23, because of open dates. If his arm is not better by then, he will be placed back on the 15-day disabled list, Sciosica said.

The Angels will place Kelvim Escobar on the disabled list to make room for O'Sullivan.

Escobar missed last season with a torn labrum and already spent a stint on the 60-day DL this year because of his troublesome shoulder. The right-hander will be used as a reliever once he returns.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Angels manager Mike Scioscia "fully anticipates" Escobar to be activated and in the bullpen next Monday.

Palmer is set to go on Wednesday against Tim Lincecum in the series finale.

O'Sullivan has made 10 starts for Triple-A Salt Lake, having yielded 61 hits and 15 walks in 49 1/3 innings with 35 strikeouts.

"He's a sinker/slider guy with a pretty good change," said Angels catcher Jeff Mathis, familiar with O'Sullivan from Spring Training and Cactus League play. "He's like [Jered] Weaver -- not overpowering but good command, moving his fastball in and out."
