10-4, +$1,295
4-0 yesterday, + a lot.
Another really barkin' slate of winnahs for Wednesday, IMO.
Atlanta (Vasquez) -135 over Cincy (Owings) for $270
If you know my capping style, you know that I love to spot pitching mismatches and hammer them. This is one, in a big, big, big, underpriced way.
JV has 105 ks against only 18 BB in just over 80 innings. You've got to be kidding me! Those are college numbers, to be frank. He's the best pitcher right now that no one is talking about, and the fact that he has a 4-5 record is an absolute travesty. That said, he's going up against Micah freaking Owings.
Mo has decent stuff - a low 90s fastball that he runs inside on righties and a decent changeup. Problem for him is that his slider doesn't have nearly enough speed differential on it to make it an effective pitch. Thus, he throws at only two speeds, and doesn't locate his change well enough to really use it all that often. He's imminently hittable, and will be for the Braves struggling lineup.
This is a good value. Play it.
Royals (Greinke) -165 over Arizona for $330
A Royals pitcher with tremendous stuff going against a putrid Arizona lineup? Where have I seen this before? Oh yea, last night, when Meche did it. Now it's the best pitcher in baseball's turn to churn up the Snakes.
Everyone knows about Greinke. But how many people know that his slider has been the most effective slider in the bigs this season? Or that he has four pitches showing a positive result so far? This guy's the real deal, and at home against a weak hitting NL West club it is a gift to get him under -200.
Meanwhile you've got Mad Max, making his return to Missouri, where he gave it the old college try (literally). Good stuff on him, with a heater that runs upper 90s at times. But he has been prone to short outings and high pitch counts. What's more, he's facing tons of pressure and lineup that's waking up. Give me the patient Royals against him all day, considering they'll only need 3 runs to win as Greinke goes complete.
Tigers (Jackson) -115 over St. Louis for $230
So we've got another monumental pitching mismatch where the AL team has the advantage over the NL team. Seems like we've been here before, too.
Edwin Jackson's newfound slider is what's made him so effective this year. All of his ratios are enhanced, with him striking out more guys, walking fewer guys, and giving up fewer tall boys, too. He's just commanding all of his pitches, and with that slider and a heater that approaches 98, he's tough to beat.
I love him all day against Todd Wellemeyer, who sucks terribly at the New Busch. He's 2-5 at home, where his K/BB ratio is only 1.2/1. On the road it's almost twice that.
Can't help but love the matchup and the value here.
Good luck to all.
