Season Record: 69-53 for +35.5 units

Dropped a couple of units over the last two days. Looking to get back on track with a decent sized play today.

Virginia -165 (vs. Arkansas) for 5 units - disclaimer that 2 of the units are at -170 per my post yesterday, and I will count them as such in my record. Just got word that Viriginia will be throwing their #1 pitcher Danny Hultzen on 3 days rest. He only went 3 innings last Saturday vs. LSU though. Hultzen is a freshman lefty who has a 2.33 ERA; 1.25 WHIP; .252 opponents avg. and 100 K's in 89 IP. Hultzen got the early hook his last time out, but he is one of the best freshman pitchers in the country (1 of the top 3 imo) and I expect him to bounce back tonight. Most people expected Virginia to start Robert Poutier (2.21 ERA; 50 K's in 36 2/3 IP) to start, but he will definitely be available for long relief including anyone else (with the possible exception of Andrew Carraway) in UVa's pen which is one of the better ones in the country. Arkansas will also start a frosh lefty in Drew Smyly. Smyly has a 4.72 ERA; 1.39 WHIP; .247 opponents avg. and 53 K's in 53 1/3 IP. Smyly hasn't pitched since May 31st, but that was a great outing against Oklahoma. He's been sporadic this season though, and was even demoted to mid-week starter late in the regular season. Arkansas will also have essentially everyone in their pen, besides maybe TJ Forrest, but their bullpen isn't as strong as UVa's. Considering how much more potent UVa's offense is, this is setting up for a very nicely for them to move on for a rematch with LSU.

GL guys.

Well that one really stunk. Can not believe UVa blew that many chances. Bad base running so many times, and can't get a sacrifice fly on 3 different occassions late. Unreal. May end the season on that one.

Shit, I have never seen such bad base running. Halley single handedly cost them the win with his terrible terrible running.

I have to admit, I lost an arm on this game. One out away from a win, and the nightmare began. You could feel the momentum change. Bases loaded in two overtime innings with 1 or no outs. Guys on the ends with 1 out.

Anyways, that game stung for me as well.

Enjoyed it Poon! :mj06:

I am done until football.

Best of luck till then! :toast:

One play today as I can pass up this dog:

North Carolina +135 (vs. Arizona St.) for 5 units ? If I lose, this will probably be my last play of the season. I had to take one last swing for the fences when I saw this line though. After the narrow loss to the Sun Devils on Sunday, UNC came out and showed how they are a veteran determined bunch in their shellacking of Southern Miss. Sophomore Matt Harvey starts for UNC today and much is being made of his experience in an elimination game last year and that should definitely come into play as he is a very experienced sophomore with this being his 30th career start. Harvey did have a sophomore slump this year after being one of the most talked about freshman in the country last year. His season long stats are a 5.35 ERA; 1.74 WHIP; .301 opponents avg. and 78 K?s in 70 1/3 IP. He was hit hard and often. He did recover towards the end of the season pitched much better. In his last three starts he had a 2.14 ERA over 21 IP. The guy is one of the hardest throwing pitchers in the country (non-Strasburg category). He?s going to be talked quite a bit next year as one of the top pitching prospects and tonight should be a nice springboard for that. He hasn?t pitched since the regionals on May 31st so he is rested and reports are that he was throwing in the high 90?s last week in an intra-squad game. ASU is going to counter with Sophomore Seth Blair. Blair has a 3.39 ERA; 1.30 WHIP; .239 opponents avg. and 78 K?s in 77 IP. Blair also hasn?t started since May 31st (a decent outing against Oral Roberts) but faced 3 batters Tuesday against Texas and couldn?t record an out. Blair had a pretty good year by all measures, but was known to get in trouble against better offenses. Both teams will be willing to throw any pitcher in relief, especially ASU who will likely trot out Josh Spence or Mike Leake on short rest. Both pens are good and the offenses are pretty even in my mind. A big deciding factor is which starter goes the farthest. With how hard Harvey throws, and how the shadows are a factor in the early innings of the night game, I think ASU is going to be striking out and in a funk early offensively.

Mr. Poon,
I'm in Austin and was listening to the local radio coverage of the CWS about an hour ago. The reporter said the ball was really carrying today and the wind is blowing out. I'm playing the over for a good size play. Good luck on UNC tonight.
