How much does Mike Singletary enjoy his job - so much that he said he saddened by the ending of months the offseason programs, minicamps and OTA practices. Singletary had a few other comments of make of note yesterday at the conclusion of OTAs.

First, he was impressed with development of Alex Smith but contined to maintain that the job still belonged to Shaun Hill.

Secondly, he said his team is behind other playoff-leaning teams in the NFC because they already know who their starting quarterbacks and wide receivers are. They also are playing in the same offenses by and large for the last few years. Salient points by Singletary, and it may be the reason the 49ers might be another year removed from making the playoffs. While I don not believe Singletary thinks this way, the comment could be construed as a sage remark that could buy Singletary more time if the 49ers fall short of the playoffs this year.

Thirdly, Singletary was asked about rookies who stood out and he mentioned third-rounder Glen Coffee, the rookie from Alabama and fifth-round linebacker from Pitt, Scott McKillop. Curiously, he mentioned first-round choice Michael Crabtree, even though he could not participate in camp because of foot surgery. Undoubtedly, Singletary is impressed with Crabtree and his desire to get into the mix. Singletary said he almost made Texas Tech star cry when he pulled him out of drills and told him to follow the edicts from the medical staff about waiting until training camp opens for full participation.Singletary, just like the rest of us, can not wait to see Crabtree in helmet and shoulder pads.

FWIW, which is nearly nothing, I won my FF league last year with Hill as my QB.

So many things change during a season that its easy to forget that guys like KURT WARNER went undrafted in many leagues as he wasnt projected as the starter.

Hill didnt win me the title, but he was my QB. Having to choose week in and week out to bench either AP, DeAngelo, or Jacobs had much more to do with it.
