Whether or not you are a fann Obama, nobody can justify his waste of tax dollars -and time -to go hang out at the All-Star game tomorrow. This kind of thing has gotten ridiculous.

I have no problem with Mr. Obama going to the All Star game. I actually think that's kinda cool. I still don't like his politics though! :mj07:

Sun, I think that if you have always felt that our head of state appearing at our major sporting events is a waste of money, then that's fine. I think it's probably ok for him, and for Bush, and for Clinton, and for Bush, etc., to show up at these things, as they are a national celebration of greatness and what (in theory) is good for our country. A President is in many ways just a figurehead and someone to try to rally all of us around a cause and country, and I think it's fine that they do it.

I do understand the money part of it now, compariatively, but I can guarantee you that if Obama said he wasn't going because of money, he would get ripped. Just not a big deal to me, personally, and I know he is a sports fan, so, to each their own. Rooting for Albert to bring it home for the locals! Unless Mauer explodes. :mj06:

Obama, a White Sox fan, will be the fourth president to throw out the first pitch at an All-Star game, following John F. Kennedy (1962 in Washington), Richard Nixon (1970 in Cincinnati) and Gerald Ford (1976 in Philadelphia).

In addition, Franklin D. Roosevelt attended the 1937 game in Washington, and George H.W. Bush went to the 1991 game at Toronto with Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and the 1992 game at San Diego with President Carlos Salinas de Gortari of Mexico.

Ford (1978 in San Diego) and Ronald Reagan (1989 in Anaheim) attended as former presidents.

(copied the above from some blogger)
_________________________________

Reagan actually helped call the 89 game in Anaheim (Bo Jackson led off with monster HR). Vince Scully was the announcer. And if I can remember which innings Reagan 'worked' I can die a happy man.

Reagan actually started out as a sports announcer on radio.

you must have your head in the sand, he is going to go down as the worst President we have ever had no doubt. Communist Socialist Marxist whatever you want to say, he has been a total disaster and hopefully in a few years we get someone that can think in there instead of one that wants to be Robin hood and take from the producers and give to the lazy asses. Hopefully tomorrow night he throws the ball in the dirt and gets booed off the field
