You mean these Big Healthcare shills HT?

Why the Gang of Six is Deciding Health Care for Three Hundred Million of Us

by Robert Reich posted on Saturday, 22 August 2009.

gang-of-six.gif

Senate Finance "Gang of Six," clockwise from upper left: Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa; Kent Conrad, D-North Dakota;Mike Enzi, R-Wyoming., Chairman Max Baucus, D-Montana, Jeff Bingaman, D-New Mexico; and Olympia Snowe R-Maine.

Thursday night, the so-called ?gang of six? ? three Republican and three Democratic senators on the Senate Finance Committee ? met by conference call and, according to Senator Max Baucus, the committee?s chair, reaffirmed their commitment ?toward a bipartisan health-care reform bill? (read: less coverage and no public insurance option). The Washington Post reports that the senators shared tales from their home states, where some have been besieged by protesters angry about a potential government takeover of the nation?s health care system.

It?s come down to these six senators. The House has reported a bill as has another Senate committee, but all eyes are fixed on Senate Finance ? and on these three Dems and three Republicans, in particular. But who, exactly, anointed these six to decide the fate of the nation?s health care?

I don?t get it. Of the three Republicans in the gang, the senior senator is Charles Grassley. In recent weeks Grassley has refused to debunk the rumor that the House?s health-care bill will spawn ?death panels,? empowered to decide whether the sick and old get to live or die. At an Iowa town meeting last Tuesday Grassley called the President and Speaker Nancy Pelosi ?intellectually dishonest? for claiming the opposite. On Thursday Grassley told the Washington Post that Congress should scale back its efforts to overhaul health care in the wake of intense anger at town hall meetings. But ? wait ? the anger is largely about distortions such as the ?death panels? that Grassley refuses to debunk.

This week on Fox News Grassley termed the House bill ?the Pelosi Bill,? and called it ?a government takeover of heath care, exploding the deficit because it?s not paid for and it?s got high taxes in it.?

I really don?t get it. We have a Democratic president in the White House. Democrats control sixty votes in the Senate, enough to overcome a filibuster. It is possible to pass health care legislation through the Senate with 51 votes (that?s what George W. Bush did with his tax cut plan). Democrats control the House. The Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, is a tough lady. She has said there will be no health care reform bill without a public option.

So why does the fate of health care rest in Grassley?s hands?

It?s not even as if the gang represents America. The three Dems on the gang are from Montana, New Mexico, and North Dakota ? states that together account for just over 1 percent of Americans. The three Republicans are from Maine, Wyoming, and Iowa, which together account for 1.6 percent of the American population.

So, I repeat: Why has it come down to these six? Who anointed them? Apparently, the White House. At least that?s what I?m repeatedly being told by sources both on the Hill and in the Administration. ?The Finance Committee is where the action is. They?ll tee-up the final bill,? says someone who should know.

Baucus got $2,300,000 from the health care industry.

You could get 2300 of Heidi Fleiss' best for that. Think about it - getting your brains screwed out by a different 20 something beauty queen every night for 2300 days - 6 years. All of these plus 1800 more -

http://guesshermuff.blogspot.com/

Instead you're getting screwed by Max Baucus.

He's a rather expensive whore, eh?

You've made that clear. A man of god who doesn't give a fuck about the poor.

You've made it clear that you would prefer poor people die in this country so that you can kill kids in other countries.

Good job Rusty.

HR 676 single payer medicare for all.

"A single payer reform would make care affordable through vast savings on bureaucracy and profits. As my colleagues and I have shown in research published in the New England Journal of Medicine, administration consumes 31% of health spending in the U.S., nearly double what Canada spends. In other words, if we cut our bureaucratic costs to Canadian levels, we'd save nearly $400 billion annually -- more than enough to cover the uninsured and to eliminate copayments and deductibles for all Americans."

And that's just over the past 5 years, when he really began to suckle on the teet of Big Healthcare Duff. Over his career, he's received well over $3 million from the modern day robber-barons of for-profit healthcare.

That's the appropriate response from a Republican. ;)

I am actually unenrolled(Independent).
When I first was eligable to vote I voted for in this Order:

Reagan(2nd term)
Bush Sr.
Clinton (both terms)
Kerry
Obama.

My memory might of missed on term sorry.

Reagan and Clinton by far were the best IMO.
They were not perfect and made there mistakes ,but were great American presidents that represented there country with pride.

Im starting to regret my vote of O for many reasons.First off he is spending to much, trying to do to much in a short period of time.
And its almost like he wants everything to be programmed .(So refer to it as socialism,I refer to as dumming down.)

Then I read all these posts from a new generation of I dont know what you call them and its like :scared . Im not saying there Democrats(I think they are but they dont admit it.)

They have made my decision even easier to turn on my vote.Raymond(I thought I would never say this.)Is right we have given our country away.

O must be stopped before our country totally falls by the wasteside.1 term and done!!

I voted for Governor Patrick here in Mass..
He is killing us with broken promises(just like O is,see stimulas package.Great time to be on a road construction job if your in with someone).

Raising our taxes thats all he has done plain and simple a empty suit.(Patrick)

I admit I helped create the monster, now it is time to stop him before it is to late.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!:00x21

Hard Times, while I understand the frustration and the angst, I wager you have never experienced a close family member going through and dying of cancer. I've watched it happen twice, in the past five years. My wife went through a malignant melanoma scare a year ago, and every six months we hope for the best with each new checkup.

Not to be overly dramatic here, but when you singled out cancer, yes cancer (I believe is how you put it), to be wished on these legislators, I think there could be a better way to find fault with them.

Sorry, cancer just hits home with me, and it sucks for all concerned. Most I know who have dealt with it would never wish it on others. Maybe a good ass-kicking, or an aggressive donation to an opponent, something like that, but not cancer. Sorry if this is too serious (or whatever), but it pisses me off when people throw this around like it should be something people "get" when they do something they don't agree with.

Hey, Rusty, I just wanted to say that I appreciate your take on things, and the background. I don't think there's a thing wrong with people who care about their country, support people, realize when things are not what they expected, and admit it. I admire it, actually, very few like what you explained.

I spend a lot of time in here arguing against those that hate what Obama's doing, and are patently right wing. I voted for him, because he represented something unique and more of my ideals than McCain, or someone more conservative than he was. I would have been ok with McCain, for the record, but terrified of who our vice-president would have been - TRULY terrified.

I agree with a lot of your takes. Obama has gone to the wall with things he believes in, and thinks can get done in the first two years of his mandate. Things will calm down quickly after this first year, and reps and senators will be coming up for a vote. I continue to be impressed with his demeanor, and his work ethic. I think he brings promise and class to the office, and I'm proud when he is on the international scene, representing the country, because he does a great job at that. He still motivates many people that were before unmotivatable, and that's important.

Again, for the record, I supported (and still would) Hillary Clinton. I think we would be experiencing a lot of positive change without all the extra concern, if she was President. Just wanted to chime in on your manifesto there. I appreciate it, and think it was well said. You are obviously more balanced than many here.

Thanks,
I hope your right .I dont wish our country to fail.
Maybe I have become to inpatient with him.

I just pitchured him a little different. He needs to get tough in certian areas, and he just seems to passive at times.

Better hurry an anti up more troops for Afganastan, before its to late.Much more important than universal healthcare at the moment.MHO.

We will see.
Later.

Only the good die young and pricks live forever. Why do u think Cheney has lived so long? If there was ever a piece of shit that deserved a miserable death it is this cock sucker. This is why it is really tough for me to believe in this god stuff. You look at these filthy pricks fuking people over and over again and sure enuf there is a new crop growing every year. If there really was this god character it would be nice if he could stop by for five minutes and let these thieves know how it is gonna be when they die. You would be amazed at all the neat stuff we all would own with our great health care coverage. These thieves would do a complete about face and these asshole pigeons they continue to pluck because of their stupidity, wouldn't know what to do with themselves.
