slow start to the season. and i'm probably not helping myself with my nuckin' futs top play today.
temple (-3.5) 3 units. even while getting dominated by penn state, the temple offensive line actually opened some holes against the nittany lions. psu's linebackers and safeties kept those holes from leading to big gains, but i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say UB's linebackers and safeties are not QUITE as good as psu's. UB is allowing 4.8 yds/carry, 99th in the country. and that's after playing 2 out of their 3 games against those powerhouse rushing offenses UTEP (90th in the country) and UCF (98th in the country). unless temple is too beat up after last week, i see them having some success in the running game. one other factor... temple has a revenge factor, after losing at UB on a last-second hail mary last year. in fact, i think temple overlooked psu in anticipation of their rematch with UB. (just seeing who's paying attention)
lsu (-12) 1 unit. the tigers have absolutely owned this series ATS.
stanford (-8.5) 1 unit. i have to expect a huge letdown for the huskies this week. also, washington has notre dame on deck. not sure if they would really overlook a conference foe, but after last week, i'm sure they're not very focused on stanford.
virginia tech (+3) 1 unit. sure, VT was lucky to beat nebraska at home. sure, miami is the most awesome team in the land (if you believe espn). blah blah blah. whatever. i have yet to see harris make one single tough throw under pressure. and i'm counting on the hokies to make him make tough throws tonight. if he does, then i'll tip my hat to him.
VT/miami under (47.5) 1 unit. i thought this was the best play on this game, but the relatively high total scares me. i don't think miami has played a decent defense yet this year (maybe the way VT has struggled to stop the run, they will still have not played a decent defense after tonight). and tyrod taylor? ha. what a terrible qb. great athlete, terrible qb. of course, a few blown assignments, and this game will probably fly over the total.
iowa (+9.5) 1 unit. last year, iowa vs psu was one of my largest plays of the year. don't quite like them as much this year. but psu hasn't covered a game yet, and they really haven't looked that good, even while dominating 3 mediocre teams. this is more of an anti-psu play than anything else.
