question one... where does the notion that favre is 'out for revenge tonight' come from? how many people out there really believe the packers screwed favre over? they let him waffle for months before finally saying enough is enough. does favre himself really think they screwed him? i mean, he is an idiot, so it's possible. just not likely. and people are convinced the rest of the vikings want to help him get this supposed revenge? wasn't it just 2 weeks ago that we were still hearing stories about how half the team didn't even want him there? now they are determined to help him get revenge against his former team, even though they really did nothing wrong? seems like this has all been concocted by espn to get people to watch tonight, like they needed any extra effort.

question two... where does this idea that favre knows everything about every packer that has ever played come from? he doesn't exactly seem like the cerebral sort of guy, who was studying every little nuance of his teammates. also, that was 2 years ago. i'm sure there has been some turnover in the packers roster. i'm sure both teams have guys who have played with a lot of guys on the other team.

just some general musings. i don't have a strong opinion on this game. chances are, favre will just keep handing off to peterson, and that will be enough to win. but if, by some miracle, the packers can slow down peterson, favre probably fuck up enough to give the packers the game.

that is all. thank you for reading.

good write up. I myself just think overall Minn is a better team and AP will run all night. What scares me is Favre known as a gunslinger and could get in trouble I am just hoping for Minn and Under but could go either way.

Sorry

Sorry

Let me put it to you in simple terms.

One of the best QB's to ever play the game. The guy is a legend and stuck out his entire career with GB (except year 1). He won them SB. He filled Lambeau. He was worth cajillions in marketing for the GB PACKERS. He was a CASH COW. The biggest the team owners have ever SEEN. He took them to the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP and as far as I am concerned he should have had the last say when he retires as a PACKER. NOT TED DOUCHE THOMPSON. THEY DID FUCK HIM. HE MADE THAT TEAM. HE WAS THE GB PACKERS. NO ONE WILL EVER BE AS VITAL TO THE FINANCIAL WELLBEING OF THE PACKERS AS FAVRE. EVER.

juji-gatame (i hope i'm pronouncing that right), i agree on both counts. i haven't seen anything that makes me think GB will slow down peterson. but if they do... favre will try to do too much and probably piss away the game.

dr rays, i see i've struck a nerve. i just want to make sure i understand your point... so you are saying that 6 months was not enough time? how long should they have waited? until the first preseason game? until the first game of the regular season? halfway through the season? they were incredibly patient, but at some point, you have to do what is best for the team, and especially for your qb of the future. you don't think it was a 2-way street? favre didn't gain ANYTHING from his relationship with the packers? the man is absolutely set for life because he could throw a football around. i don't live in green bay, so this is an honest question... did he go out in the community and promote the packers? a lot? maybe he did, but he sure doesn't seem like the type. also, i do know that he did jack squat to help aaron rodgers. seems very petty. and/or insecure.

missy, you may be right. i said it's possible he believes that. but i really don't think the rest of the vikings are jumping on board with his personal crusade.

pound4pound, thank you, that is a great point. i hadn't thought about that. i think it's much more likely that the packers will rally around rodgers than the vikings rallying around favre.

no matter what... espn sure did a great job. this game will be watched by a few people.

Steel City and Smitty, respect your opinions, always read what you guys have to write however the old man can still sling it! Could things have been handled better, sure! On both parts, however when I look around the NFL or most sports these days there aren't many players that I'd have my kid look up to. #4 is a throw back, how many times do you hear TO, Ray Lewis, Randy Moss or any of the other thugs in the league mention the word "fun" in a post game press conference. I figure you two guys to be solid football fans and there aren't many throw back players left in the league. You are watching one tonight.

tcon, thank you for the kind words. and he is certainly having a great game tonight. this is the best i've seen him look in a long time. i tip my cap to him; he has risen to the challenge tonight.

i also agree with your 'throwback' comments. my issue with favre off the field is that he seems very, very selfish. if you want a guy who's having fun out there, and seems like a great guy off the field. look at a guy like tony romo. was it last year when he took that homeless man to a movie? and stopped by the side of the road after a game to help a couple with a flat tire? can you really picture favre doing things like that? i know, i know, we all have our opinions, and we don't really know the man. all i can go by is the impression i get.

anyway... is it too late for me to bet the over tonight?

I have been arguing with my cuz about this for the last two years. He hates favre and all his drama. The bottom line to me is that the NFL is meant to entertain, and its a helluva lot more entertaining (hate or love) with Favre on the field!
I am his age and respect that tough son of a bitch playing against those animals. Damn, my back is aching as I type this shit!

Good to hear that about Romo, I'd never heard that before. And I hope the kid is still having fun and doing those things throughout his career. I thinks it's good to see players do great things off the field as well as on the field.

Probably to some like yourself, think it's selfishness on Favre's part, but like most athletes who have played ball since pee wee league I imagine it's hard to hang em up especially when you still obviously have the skills.

either way like you said he's risen to the challenge tonight. I didn't think the viking defense or the AP got off like everyone thought tonight so it was good to see #4 make the plays to win the game.

Also a fan of Joe Pa, had to laugh watching him give the photographer hell that was on field too close to his players, the guys a riot!

By the way I had to sweat that over play out a little longer than I anticipated. Gl to ya this year Smitty!

tcon, thanks. gl to you, too.

yeah, i wish i remembered more specifics about those romo stories. but most guys would have just given the guy a few bucks to go see the movie. romo actually went in and watched the movie with the guy. he's obviously having some on-field issues, but he is certainly having fun out there and he seems like a real class act off the field.

not to beat a dead horse, but i certainly don't hold anything against favre for not wanting to retire. i can certainly understand that. my impression of his selfishness comes from 2 things. 1) how he keeps stringing teams along. i understand it can be a tough decision to make, but at some point you have to realize... the qb position is somewhat important to a football team. you have to make a decision and go with it. 2) every story out of green bay indicated that favre did absolutely nothing to help aaron rodgers' development. at least one time i saw a quote, something like 'it's not my job to be a mentor to him.' sure, that franchise owed quite a bit to favre, but as i said earlier, it's a two-way street. he also owed it to that franchise (in my opinion) and especially the fans to help set the packers on the path to continue to be among the league's best.

joepa... what can i say about that man that hasn't already been said? he is no doubt in my top 5 'guys i'd love to have a beer with.' he is truly deserving of legendary status.

Everything I have read says that Faver is pretty much of a dick in public. We had a thread about it one time and people were posting some crazy chit about Favre acting out.

Did anyone notice how old that Peterson looks for such a young guy ?

I had a friend who had a uncle that I used to shoot pool with. He looked just like Peterson.

The guy was 60 :scared

The other thing about Peterson, is that there is no way in hell that he can excuse that linebacker taking the ball out of his grasp and running for a touchdown.

I know it happens but not to a top rusher in the league. He fumbles too much also.

No way Vikings go deep into playoffs.
