Agreed. They're also lucky that Tennessee didn't try to get any closer on the FG try. 1st and 10 from the 27 with 1:00 to play and they just sit on the ball. To assume your college kicker is going to make a 44-yard FG in a hostile environment is downright asinine. I was rooting for Tennessee to win but they deserved to lose, IMO.

One other thing... games like that are a good reason why I think teams should be able to drop in the standings even if they do win. 2 weeks in a row now Alabama has looked like shit, at home.

And how about the Nebraska game? If they would have come back and won that game 10-9 they probably would have moved up in the rankings, even though they were about a 3 TD fave on their own field. They didn't, so it's a moot point, but just sayin'...

Move Bama down in the polls. It doesnt matter, the winner of the SEC Championship game is going to the National Championship. Period.

I agree. But it doesn't change the fact that if a team struggles they should be dropped. There seems to be a lot of hesitancy to do that. I don't just mean Alabama, but any team.

Vol fan here, but will tell you that the officials made the right call there. Even if the flag gets thrown, it would have been marked off on the change of posession.

Once the ball crossed the line of scrimmage, it is AL ball.

My fellow Vol fans should not be whining about that when you had several chances to win

Yeah, I was going for Tenn there at the end (lost bet on ALA) but would have hated to see Tenn get another kick for that. Come on...

Also agree....why did Tenn just settle for that field position. Don't do anything stupid but run a couple plays and make the kick inside 40.

Still, a block is a lot different from a miss. They would have probably blocked an extra point with that push.

Howls erupted after Cody's goal block saved Alabama's bacon. Cody indeed removed his helmet while still in the field of play. That's a big no-no, and it usually merits a 15-yard penalty. But here's where the howlers are wrong. Even if officials had flagged Cody, Tennessee wouldn't have gotten another kick.

Because Alabama blocked and recovered the ball, Alabama had possession. The game can't end on a defensive penalty, but because of the possession change, Alabama wasn't on defense. We'll let SEC spokesman Charles Bloom take it from here.

"The foul for taking helmet off is a live ball foul treated as a dead-ball foul," Bloom wrote in an e-mail Saturday night. "That is, if it happens on a play where time does not expire then the penalty is enforced on the following play. However since the clock ran out on that play, then there is no next play, so there is no penalty to mark off."

2004 Auburn went undefeated, won SEC and did not play in National Championship.
