Driving around the Denver, Colorado metro area is a mess and giving people major headaches as they try to get around town.

The biggest storm to hit Colorado in October in twelve years is leaving roads packed with snow and ice and while crews are being credited with doing a pretty good job of keeping roads cleared, the snow is falling faster than crews can clear it.

Traffic for the last two days has been at a crawl and it likely won't get
better until Friday when the storm moves out and sun starts to peek out again.

Many areas in the southern and western parts of the metro area have more than two-feet of snow on the ground and while major roadways are drivable, side streets are a lower priority for plow crews and getting into and out of neighborhoods is presenting a lot of challenges.

Schools are closed; so many parents are putting their kids to work clearing walkways, sidewalks and driveways of all the snow that has piled up.

Climatologists at Colorado State University in Fort Collins say these types of storms, packing this much snow, in October are rare, but they do happen. Those same climatologists say in an average year parts of eastern Colorado will see about 56-inches of snow. So far, this year about 25-inches of recordable snow has fallen.

I am not an expert on global warming like you are.

But more cold and snow are not examples of global warming being a hoax.

Global warming leads to climate change which means there will be more rapid changes in temperature.

Which means more cold and snow at unusual times is a cause of climate change not a sign that the whole thing is a hoax.

Ocean temperatures being at record highs, earlier snowfalls than usual and abnormally large cyclones in the pacific are all signs of climate change.

it does not exist, when are you liberals going to realize, its a money making proposition, fabricated. I realize we have to protect the planet for future generations and I am all for it, but man causing global warming is bologna

I thought I was on ignore?

Why the fuck should anyone believe anything you say?

You are just a liar. You lie about everything.

And in no way are you smart enough to know what you are talking about be it climate change or anything for that matter.

Yeah, he chose the ignore feature that still allows him to see every post, even with half the forum on ignore.

There is an interesting section on Global Warming in the book Superfreakonomics by Levitt and Dubner. Has changed my thinking a bit on the topic.

Could you share the highlights with us--I for one am curious.

Essentially, it goes something like this:

Global warming is real (you still there? stay with me brother). It doesn't mean all that much and the money being thrown at it is wasteful since the only way humans could make a real difference is if the entire planet jumped on board. Having a few countries recycling, lowering emissions, etc. won't make any difference. There is a group headed by a former Microsoft exec that has a solution: Recreate the effects of a volcano by pumping sulfur into the atmosphere. Their solution would cost peanuts compared to the money currently being spent on stuff like "awareness" and re-engineering and it would actually make a difference.

I do think it is funny that it is well known that our beef industry has the greatest negative impact on the warming effect with the methane released, yet that industry gets a pass (think any lobbyists have helped keep this out of the spotlight).

I am recalling this from memory, so if I missed something, I am sure TerryRay will be in to correct me.

You are an expert on climate change?

I can go and post links about warmer than record Atlantic ocean temps and other extremes.

We are in a period of low solar flare activity so we can expect a year or two of colder than normal temps.

We are also in the middle of an El Nino which is why the atlantic hurricane activity was so quiet.

The amount and strength of noreasters this winter will also be a cause of el nino.

If you look at pacific hurricane activity, that was above normal and we had a major hurricane make landfall in mainland Mexico which is a rarity.

I'm not an expert but I know for certain
-when its cold and when its hot
-- few can predict the weather
-same people warning us about global warming were warning us about global cooling a decade ago.
--that there are still rewards up to a mill on proof of global warming and no ones collected.

Now I am with you Shawn on your reasonings of-

"We are in a period of low solar flare activity so we can expect a year or two of colder than normal temps.

We are also in the middle of an El Nino which is why the atlantic hurricane activity was so quiet.

The amount and strength of noreasters this winter will also be a cause of el nino."

--along with many other factors that dictate weather--

--but none have a thing to do c02 --it is total speculation.

--and I am not for changing the way we live on a speculation--but I am for keeping our environment as clean as possible.

I agree that there is a ton of uncertainty with this issue.

However, short term weather like cold streaks are not proof that global warming is not happening.

Just like when we have warmer than usual short period is not an example of global warming happening.

I am all for keeping the environment clean as possible and think we can find a middle ground where people are not incredibly inconvienced and we can make changes to omissions and other items.
