See video of Spikes purposely gouging eyes during a swarm tackle. I was told last season from someone in the know, that Spikes does this regularly. He was reported to the SEC by 2 teams last season including Bama.

Suspension on the way? Doubt it, because he is a star player on #1 team in nation.

Wow, can't pass that off as accidental. There's no place in the game for that shit but it happens more than many think. Spikes just got caught by the camera. A suspension would be the proper action for the SEC to take.

First I agree w/ Spang that it happens more than many would think.

However, I think the issue is that it is expected that the SEC (or any other conference) is the one to hand out the penalty. Shouldn't this be something that the coach handles first? I know I'm dreaming a bit as Urban Meyer (and many other coaches) won't suspend or take action against a star unless their hand is forced. I just can't fathom how you let one of your players get away with this (once it is brought to your attention that it happened). I guess winning is the only thing.

Not too loud guys, I'm sure the SEC officials will ban u from all events sactioned by the SEC if it is know u question Florida. I use to dislike the program as spurrier ran it, but now with this Myers cat I have went from dislike to hate almost! Can't imagine anything would happen IF this isn't made a big spectacle of. I guess goudging eyes is a little different from punching or throwing a haymaker but to me it's all in the same distaste, should be suspended and I CANT WAIT FOR FLORIDA TO GO DOWN! Tim "can't throw" Tebow breaks Walkers record...now that's laughable to me. maybe the best running back ever(damn sure one of them) has his rushing td record broken by qb? Can someone say Tommy Frazier should
of got drafted of this clown does, at qb atleast. I see him lining up as a TE or something eventually.:142smilie

I would expect him to take his anger out during a play. Put a nasty, but legal, hit on somone, make a big play, something, but I would put this right up there with Blount's no look cold cock of the Boise player earlier this year. Spikes is now a p*ssy in my book.

I'm sure this kind of crap goes on a lot but its one of those things...when there is 100% proof, you have to take action and you get labeled.

Someone who steals doesn't go to jail if they don't get caught. But if they are caught, they have to pay the price and are labeled a thief.

Honestly, if I was coaching, I'm pretty sure I'd have about 5-10 "enforcers" on my team. Guys who suck at football but if shit like that happens, they are going to pay.

Sorry but if you want to gouge my guy's eyes, there will be a guy going for your knees before the game is over and hopefully....for you...it won't cost you millions at the next level.

I'm a die-hard Florida fan but I still think this is bush league. I don't care how many people do it, it's still wrong. JMHO

I saw in an article on ESPN that when questioned about it, Urban Meyer stated "I'll have a very serious talk with him." Way to lay down the law Urban.

First, there's a 'caps lock' button on the left of your keyboard, go ahead and hit it before sending your next reply.

You are right, he hasn't seen the tape. However, I guess I should have included the whole quote:

"If that's the case, I'll have a very serious talk with him," Meyer said.

So basically Meyer is stating the worst that will happen, if he is determined to be guilty of the accusation, is a stern talking to. I guess I would have expected the normal coach-speak of "we will review it internally and determine if any action/discipline is necessary". That's all, I was just surprised that he seemed to state the worst that would come of this was a 'serious talk'.

And going back to previous posts and something I even stated in this thread, yes I know this goes on a ton, I'm not naive. But it is dirty and when it is this blatant, there should be a punishment in my mind.

Florida's Meyer to sit Spikes half a game for eye gouge
Nov. 2, 2009
CBSSports.com wire reports

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida coach Urban Meyer has suspended Brandon Spikes for the first half of Saturday's game against Vanderbilt after the star linebacker attempted to gouge the eyes of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey in a 41-17 victory.

Meyer says Spikes was retaliating after getting his eye poked earlier in the game.

Spikes is fourth on the team with 42 tackles and has three sacks.

He decided to return for his senior season instead of entering the NFL Draft. The team's defensive captain has missed most of two games this season with an injured groin. He played only a series against Arkansas and sat out the entire game at Mississippi State on Oct. 24.

The suspension is an even bigger joke.

Either you go with it was an accident he is not suspended or he did it he is suspended for at least a game.

To do it for a half is a bigger joke, you are admitting he tried to gouge someone's eyes out and that deserves an one half suspension.

And the sec not doing anything shows you who they are behind.
