Florida St -12.5 over Iona ***** strong play
Think this is a terrible match up for the Gaels.Iona is 3-0 but have played some weak teams.This is a young team that probaly will be in the middle of the pack in the MAAC conf.They have only one outstanding player in Machado.He can shoot and penetrate.Iona top 4 scorers have outside games.They are all gds.Huffman and Mcfadden play the inside and have size but aren't scorers.Iona biggest weakness is offense.Last yr they were one of the worst teams in the country in scoring.They should improve this yr but not by much.Today they will play zone defense because of the mismatch.Iona loves to press and that is why they are 3-0.But that press will be negated today due to the talent of the FSU gds.
FSU is one of the best defensive teams in the ACC.They are 3-1 after getting spanked by the Gators the other day.Florida dominated them.But tonite Iona should pose no threat esp with the inside game.FSU has one of the best frontcourts in the ACC.Alabi is 7'1,Singleton6'9 and Gibson 6'11.They also happen to be the top 3 scorers.It's not only there size but there long wing spans,etc. FSU gds are quick and athletic.Kitchen is a solid pt gd and has some partners that can shoot.
FSU plays pressure defense and contests the open shots.In there 1st 3 wins vs weaker teams there defense gave up only 46 total points in the 1st half.
If they shut Machado down Iona will have a tough time scoring pts.They have no one to play post defense and Iona's press will not work tonite.Iona will have to pack in there 2-3 defense and pray.
FSU is so much quicker on the wings..backcourt,frontcourt,depth,shooting,etc..and Iona is a poor shooting FT team...Seminoles win this by 15-20 pts...maybe more...
Another note....might not be a Vegas stat. but taking a team with an American Indian name on Thanksgiving Day is always a sure winner.I know the Seminoles weren't near Plymouth,but they had to have a cousin or two there....
